A process for washing textile fabrics, comprising: (i) a washing step in which the fabrics are immersed in an aqueous washing liquid, comprising a detergent surfactant, a detergency enhancer and, optionally, other detergent ingredients; (ii) a rinse step in which the fabrics are immersed for at least 30 seconds in an aqueous rinse-free liquid with no surfactant and comprising a detergency enhancer in a concentration in the range of 0.1 to 10 g / l. An appropriate composition to carry out this process comprises: (a) from 10 to 99.95%, by weight, of a detergency enhancer, (b) from 0 to 90%, by weight, of a pH buffer, the ratio of (a) for (b) being from 99.95: 0 to 10:90; and (c) a fluorescent and / or a perfume; the composition being substantially free of organic surfactant.
