In addition, biodegradable nonwoven materials also exhibit high rates of humidification, which is unexpected based on high hysteresis values. The nonwoven material can be produced using thermoplastic compositions that comprise an unreacted blend of aliphatic polyester polymer with a continuous phase, polyolefinic microfibers with a discontinuous phase embedded within the continuous phase of the aliphatic polyester polymer, and a compatibilizer for the aliphatic polyester polymer and polyolefinic microfibers. The multicomponent fiber exhibits substantial biodesintegration properties and good humidification capacity while still being easily processed. Biodegradable non-woven materials can be used in a disposable absorbent product intended for the absorption of fluids such as body fluids.
