A method of producing a field-emitting cathode for a light source, which includes at least one field-emitting body with a field-emitting surface, wherein the method includes modifying said emitting surface in such a way that provide at least one electrical field emitting irregularity on each of said surfaces. The method is differentiated by, at least, a beam of laser light that is brought to model the body and, simultaneously, make contact with the emitting surface of the field and, thus, provide a modifying treatment on the body surface. The invention also concerns a field-emitting cathode thus produced and a light source that includes such a field-emitting cathode.
