Abstract

OF ENERGY SUPPORT AND THERMAL INSULATION FOR LIQUID METAL BATH". This invention relates to a process of supplying energy in a first step to then function as a thermal insulator on the surface of metal baths such as pig iron, steel, etc. In the integrated steelworks, the liquid pig iron, after leaking in the blast furnaces, is transported in torpedo cars to the melt shop where it will undergo various treatments. During all this movement, both pig iron and steel lose a large amount of heat. This heat loss negatively affects pig iron and steel treatments. To avoid this loss, mills resort to two types of procedures. One of them is the use of rice straw, which is thrown on the surface of the bath, forming a layer that is burned, generating energy and, consequently, maintaining the temperature of the liquid metal. The other procedure, increasingly in use, is to raise the temperature of the blast furnace run to compensate for the loss of energy during the mobilization of the liquid metal. Recognizing the importance of reducing industrial costs, as well as finding solutions for the reuse of waste from plants, we devised a new process that, in addition to overcoming the drawbacks of the processes currently used, is economically viable and represents a contribution to reduce environmental pollution.
