This is accomplished by adding ionizable substituents (A) to the dye molecule during initial synthesis, and then reacting this with an appropriate agent that contains charge-balancing ions (X). These ionic compounds can be deposited as amorphous films using conventional evaporation techniques. In addition, crystallization by heat is stable. OLED devices incorporating such dye salts for emitter layers exhibit superior efficiencies and durability compared to devices using neutral dye molecules.
