Abstract

The equipment can be used, as the main or auxiliary driving source for merchant ships and yachts. By applying a wing with asymmetric aviation profile, the navigation vessel can sail by wind blowing from both sides -from the left or right deck. The equipment consists of wings (1) located symmetrically toward mast (2) and driving system by motors (13 and 31), hydro or pneumatic cylinders (17,26 and 35) and shared kinematic circuits of wings (1). The, wings (1) are free to move along two axes - vertical along the axis of the mast (2) and horizontal along the beam (4). When the course of the ship or the direction of the wind, is changed, the driving system carries out an evolution with the wings (1) rotating them around these axes and they acquire a position ensuring operation of the other side of the deck. The design and operation principle of the equipment offer a possibility for the wings (1) to acquire any type of asymmetric aerodynamic profile. When used by sports - touristic vessels, the hollow volume of the wings (1), the spoilers (37 and 38) and the mast (2) are filled with a packing with negligible bulk density which protects against capsizing in the case of average. In non-operational state the wings (1) automatically acquire "wind cone" position and do not affect the behaviour of the navigation vessel.
