Abstract

These pigs have a relatively long and harmonious body, light head and a well-developed rear thigh. The legs are thin, but sturdy and well-postured. The primary body color is white. The bulk of the animals are dark-spotted, especially in the rear half of the body. They have an epidermic character that vanishes in full after tanning. Pigs of this breed have a high growth intensity and fully utilize the forage, as well as a large quantity of high-quality meat and have a thin bacon. This hybrid is created as a result of profound scientific research and selection. In Position A of the mother component participated the Swedish-born Big White (BW), while in Position B is the Landrace (line CH) and in Position C - Hampshire. The successful combination of the mother and father line, and the big genetic divergence among them, ensures a high heterosis effect both for the level of the hybrid pig mothers, and of the finished product - the hybrid pigs. The Pleven 1 hybrid mothers are expressly of the meat type, with sturdy constitution, long and harmonic body, and with more than 12 well-developed tits and high fertility (more than 10 pigs in a litter). Their high vitality allows their use for reproduction for a longer period of time.A characteristic quality of the Pleven 1 hybrid pigs is that they utilize protein very well, and when fed with low protein mixtures, they yield a high daily increase. The reproduction of the Pleven 1 hybrid creates a slender, scientifically- substantiated system with nucleus, reproductive and good herds. It is implemented in the pig-farming enterprise in the town of Pleven and in the former Mihailovgrad region, having about 13,500 mother pigs. The total results from the comparative tests of the Pleven 1 hybrid, the bilinear hybrid and the pure-breed animals from the Swedish origin Big White are shown in the table below.Characteristics : Pleven 1 - Bilinear - Big White of Swedish OriginNewly-born pigs in a farrowNumber : 10.10 - 9.87 - 9.18Average weight increasefrom 30 to 115 kg : 717 - 640 - 586Forage Expenditure per 1 kgof body weight increase, kg : 3.331 - 3,656.3 - .839Meat in thigh bones, % : 75.4 - 73.0 - 72.8Meat in main body part bones, % : 70.2 - 69.1 - 69.6The Pleven 1 hybrid pigs are suitable for the production of ham, semi-canned products and meat.
