Abstract
This substance is intended for use in medicine as an experimental pain relief agent. It does not cause addiction of the organism, and the deblocked pentapeptide exhibits significant experimental activity upon interaction with delta opiate receptors, with the analgesic effect being several times longer lasting compared to that of naturally occurring methioninencephaline. The (Cys<2> sulphonamide)- methioninencephaline amide has the following formula: Z-Tyr-Cys(02NH2)-Gly-Phe-Met-NH2 and is obtained through inserting at position two in the sequence natural methioninencephaline by an enzymatic method employing chymotrypsine with a non-protein amino acid - a biologically active cysteinsulphonamide residue, and amidation of the C-terminal methionine residue by a chemical method.
