The resulting products have a lower or insignificant content of these substances compared to products dried by traditional methods. Tobacco leaf irradiation is carried out after initiation of the yellowing or before the accumulation of substantial quantities of tobacco-specific nitrosamines for a time sufficient to effectively remove them from burning. As alternative sources of radiation, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, soft X-rays or lasers, electron beam and gamma radiation can be used.
