Abstract

The invention relates to mineral fibre additive improving theproperties of the asphalt. It is applied when the fibres areagglomerated in grains before their addition to the asphalt. Theadditive includes water- and heatresistent binder pretreated witha wetting agent for wetting the fibres with asphalt. Preferablythe binder contains phenol resins of a type which is ususallyemployed in the manufacture of insulation fibrous matte includingglass fibres or mineral fibres. The employment of mineral fibresmatte is preferable due to the importance of finding applicationof the insulation fibrous panels due to recycling. The wettingagent can also consist of silicon resins. The method for thepreparation of the additive includes the following stages: (a) thefibres are extracted from a matte of bound mineral fibres of atype designed for insulation; (b) resin is applied on the fibreswhich acts as a wetting agent for the asphalt; (c) the fibres aretreated in a grain-forming device. Stage (b) can be performedbefore or after stage (c).9 claims
