Abstract

The upper part of the metal rod supporting a guide eye and counterweight for guiding warp yarns entering the shed of a loom is encased in a smooth elongated sheath made of a plastics material by overmoulding. The sheath pref. has a diameter similar to that of a rod-type counterweight and likewise pref. corresponds closely to the width of space available within which the guide moves vertically.

Description

The present invention relates to a heald for jacquard mechanics consisting of a metal wire fitted with a counterweight and at the opposite end of a string forming a suspension loop.

In jacquard mechanical harnesses, the healds of which are provided with counterweights, the warp thread tends to drive the healds and their counterweights forward, i.e. towards the fabric. This phenomenon is very apparent when weaving heavy fabrics.

The phenomenon to which reference is made results in the frequent breaking of warp threads and is the cause of "faults" being woven. In addition, the healds exhibit premature wear which is due to the friction of the healds together.

The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to produce a heddle which gives complete satisfaction of the fact that each heddle remains in the axis which is assigned to it, so that the weaving continues without a hitch and that the duration of the smooth is considerably increased.

To achieve this objective in accordance with the invention, the part of the metal wire of the heddle, which, in the position of use, is considered to be the upper part of the latter, is provided with an extra thickness of cylindrical shape.

In a preferred embodiment, the aforementioned extra thickness is produced using plastic material and the diameter of the latter is substantially equal to the diameter of the aforementioned counterweight produced in the form of a metal rod.

Other details and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which will be given below of a heald for mechanical jacquard according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference ratings refer to the attached figure.

The figure shows a heddle according to the invention.

The smooth for mechanical jacquard according to the invention consists of a metal wire (1) having in a manner known per se an eyelet (2) for the passage of a warp wire, a counterweight (3) in the form of a metal bar whose diameter varies according to requirements. At the part of the heddle which, in the position of use, is considered to be the upper part, the metal wire (1) is equipped with a string forming a loop (4).

This string forming a suspension loop on the harness is sometimes joined to the metal wire (1) by an injection of plastic material. This technique is known.

The characteristic of the invention is to produce at this location an additional thickness (5) of generally cylindrical shape, the diameter of which is equal to or substantially equal to that of the counterweight (3) itself produced in the form of a metal bar.

The diameter of the extra thickness (5) is chosen so that the beams and their counterweight remain very exactly in the space assigned to them. In this way friction between the rails is avoided, which protects them from premature wear. By maintaining their correct position, the heddles no longer tend to compact which was the cause of frequent weaving errors.

The realization of an additional thickness is done by injection of plastic material and does not cause any technical problem.

The main thing is that the extra thickness (5) has a diameter which is at least substantially equal to that of the counterweight (3).

It is however understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and that many modifications could be made without departing from the scope of this patent application.
