Machine for drying and ironing
linen, of the cylinder type lined with felt.
Machine intended for drying and ironing linen, of the type with felt-filled cylinders.
The invention relates to a machine for drying and ironing linen, of the type with felt-filled cylinders, characterized by maintaining the felt for lining the cylinders in an atmosphere controlled in temperature and humidity.
Machines for drying and ironing laundry in industrial laundries have one or more cylinders with a horizontal axis lined with felt. The cylinders, in rotation, are heated by contact with a hot metal wall on the lower half circumference. The linen to be treated is inserted between the cylinder and the heating wall. A fan creates a vacuum inside each cylinder, sucks the ambient air through the free surface of the felt, corresponding to the upper half circumference of the cylinder, and discharges it outside, in mixture with the steam d water from treated laundry.
The current state of the art, which uses the suction of ambient air, causes the surface cooling of the felt which limits the production capacity of the machine and causes an additional cost of energy consumption. The ambient air does not allow sufficient drying of the felt which gradually deteriorates.
The present invention relates to a machine for drying and ironing linen, of the type with cylinders filled with felt. These machines include one or more cylinders with a horizontal axis, most generally two, of various diameters and lengths. The invention is characterized in that each cylinder is covered, at its upper part over its entire free surface, with a hood allowing the injection and distribution of hot air on the felt, this air then being drawn in by the cylinder fan and discharged to the previous cylinder located upstream. The hoods, which cover the free non-active part of the cylinder as completely as possible, are insulated and fitted with a device for distributing and injecting air into the space between the hood and the cylinder.
Ambient air, heated to at least 100 [deg.] By steam heating coil or natural gas burners, is taken up by a fan and injected by the hood onto the outlet cylinder of the machine. This air, sucked in by the fan of the last cylinder, is injected on the cylinder upstream. The hot and humid air extracted from the first cylinder of the machine is discharged outside. A recuperator exchanger, individual or common to several machines, allows the preheating of the ambient air injected by thermal recovery on the extracted air.
The advantages obtained by the application of this invention, which keeps the felt hot and dry at all times, consist in obtaining a greater production capacity thanks to the higher temperature of the felt and in extending the service life of the felt thanks to its maintenance in the drier state. The invention also makes it possible to achieve operating savings from the point of view of thermal energy by reducing, for equal operating conditions, the flow rate of extracted air per cylinder, by reducing to a single cylinder per machine the number of extraction of hot air and allowing the use of a recuperator for preheating the air injected into the last cylinder.
The attached figures, indications for an embodiment, allow a better understanding of the invention. Figure 1 is a side view of a two-cylinder machine. The course followed by the linen is indicated in a strong arrowed line. Ambient air heated to at least 100 [deg.] Is injected at (1) by the hood which covers the last cylinder. The air is sucked through the felt, in the inactive zone indicated in dotted line (2) by the fan (3) which discharges it towards the preceding cylinder on which it is distributed in the same way (4). The fan of the first cylinder (5) draws air through the felt in the inactive zone (6) and discharges it (7) outside or towards a recuperator. Figure 2 gives a cross section of a cylinder with an air injection hood.
