Desulphurization lance nose of
cast iron or steel Patent No. [deg.] 871,590 describes a protective nose
for blowing lance arranged to balance the reaction exerted on the lance
by a fluid during its ejection. This object is achieved by a protective nose in which a connection with the lance injection tube is extended by several outlet tubes arranged so as to open into the external lateral wall of the nose. With this nose, the fluid is ejected laterally, which makes it possible to prevent the lance from undergoing lateral movements and thus avoid the risks of cracking and deterioration of the refractory protective coating.
In the embodiment described by way of example in the aforementioned patent, the outlet tubes are curved so that the fluid is ejected in substantially horizontal radial directions
(Figures 1 and 2 attached). In this way, when the lance is positioned with its nose
which rests on the bottom of a ladle, the jets of fluid do not reach and do not degrade the
pocket bottom.
It is quite obvious, however, that if one does not
not rest the lance nose on the bottom of the pocket, the fluid jets can just as easily be
directed obliquely to the axis of the lance rather than being practically horizontal, the essential being always, in the spirit of the invention, that
at least two outlet tubes eject the fluid laterally with a distribution almost balanced with respect to the longitudinal axis of the lance. It is this lateral and balanced arrangement as described in the aforementioned patent, which produces
the technical effect sought by the inventor, namely:
the best possible balancing of the reaction forces of the jets of fluid on the blowing lance. With this in mind, the axial curvature of the
outlet may be weak, or even practically zero, that is to say that the outlet tubes may be generally straight.
Equally obvious is the fact that the lateral and balanced arrangement of the ejection tubes can be applied with benefit to a blowing lance cooled or not and as well to a lance used to desulfurize a bath of cast iron or steel as at
a lance used for bubbling a steel bath.
Figures 3 to 11 attached hereto illustrate some typical variants that the inventor has made experimentally with equivalent benefit.
Figures 3 and 4 show, respectively in axial section and in cross section, an exemplary embodiment of a lance nose, in which the outlet tubes 15
are oblique to the longitudinal axis I of
injection tube with a curve 16 at the mouth of the injection tube to reduce the pressure drop of the fluid. Point 17 created at the junction
internal walls of the outlet tubes 15 favors
the fragmentation of any particles present
in the fluid, which reduces the risk of blocking the outlet tubes.
Figures 5 and 6 show, respectively in axial section and in cross section an exemplary embodiment in which the outlet tubes 15 are also oblique with respect to the longitudinal axis I of the injection tube but without bending at the mouth
of the injection tube. The illustrated embodiment
in Figures 7 and 8 is similar to that in Figures
5 and 6 except that the outlet tubes are
smaller diameter than the outlet tubes of FIGS. 5 and 6 and that the junction of the internal walls forms a point 17 as in FIG. 3. This embodiment is satisfactory for blowing a bubbling gas.
Figures 9 to 11 show two examples of execution comprising oblique outlet tubes 15 (an odd number in the example of Figures 9-10 and a number
even in the example of figure 11) with further
an axial outlet tube 18. This axial tube allows a blowing which is still satisfactory when a tube
side outlet (or more) comes to be obstructed.
The outlet tubes can be welded to a
fitting 11 adapted to the end of the injection tube as already illustrated in the patent 871.590 and in Figures 3 to 10 attached hereto or obviously be welded directly to the injection tube (Figure 11).
In this last example, the nose and the lance even form a monolithic whole.
In the drawings of FIGS. 3 to 11, a grid 20
is embedded in the porous material constituting
the body 14 of the nose, this grid serving to mechanically reinforce the body of the nose against thermal shock during use. The screen can be fixed on irons 19 welded to the injection tube or to the connector with it (Figures 3-10) or to an outlet tube (Figure 11).
It is understood that other modes of execution
spear noses can still be designed while achieving the substantially balanced layout
according to the invention.
