<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DESCRIPTION RELATING TO
PATENT APPLICATION FOR
L. V. D. COMPANY N. V.-Nijverheidslaan 2, 8630 GU. LLEGEM
Regarding "Work table fitted with a plate support system for a guillotine shears and guillotine shears fitted with a work table".
EMI1.1
A guillotine shears mainly consists of the following parts. The table, with an integrated lower blade, forms the frame together with the uprights. The upper blade, which is integrated in the upper cutting beam, is moved along the lower blade by means of hydraulic push cylinders or connecting rods. While the lower blade is horizontal, the upper blade is positioned at an angle to provide scissor action when the upper blade is pushed down.
Cutting plates in this way is not without problems, however. Especially when cutting narrow sheet metal strips, the strip is bent downwards over its entire length by the downward-moving upper knife, so that one speaks of "saber formation and torsion". Straightening the narrow cut strip afterwards therefore becomes necessary.
The object of the invention is to cut narrow sheet metal strips, which are straight and flat enough to allow subsequent straightening to be eliminated. To realize this, the work table of the guillotine shears is provided with a plate support system according to the invention.
The plate support system according to the invention is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
characterized by a hinged chain mounted along the worktable in such a way that the top of the chain is level with the worktop and so that the cut sheet metal is clamped between the downward moving bomes and the counter-moving chain. This back pressure is provided by a series of upright pressure cylinders, on which the chain is mounted, fed by a hydraulic circuit that ensures that the chain presses against the plate strip to be cut with an adjustable base pressure and that the base pressure changes into a much smaller return. - press where the plate strip was just cut.
More details will be apparent from the description of a guillotine shear equipped with a plate support system according to the invention, with reference to the attached figures.
Figure 1-is a front view of a schematically depicted guillotine shears provided with the plate support system and the associated hydraulic cycle both according to the invention.
Figure 2-is a cross-sectional view of the right-most pressure cylinder.
A guillotine shear as shown in figure 1 comprises an inclined top beam 1 in which an upper knife 2 (see fig. 2) is incorporated and a horizontal table 3 in which a lower knife 4 (see fig. 2) is incorporated. The plate 5 to be cut lies on the table 3 and protrudes over a certain distance over the edge of the lower blade 4. When the upper beam 1 comes down, the plate strip is cut off by the scissors action between the lower knife 4 and the upper knife 2 ( see fig. 2).
The plate strip projecting over the lower blade 4 is supported by the plate support system of the invention. The plate support system consists of a chain 6 which is mounted on a series of pressure cylinders 7. The chain 6 consists of pressure pieces 8 which are hingedly mounted on the cylinder rods 9. These pressure pieces 8 are hinged to one another by means of hinges
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
8 are hinged to each other by means of hinged coupling pieces 10. The whole forms the limited movable chain 6. The pressing cylinders 7 are hinged to the frame of the guillotine shears by means of a coupling profile 11.
One of the pressure cylinders 7 is held upright by means of a bracket 12, so that all other pressure cylinders also remain upright since they are interconnected with the chain 6 (see also fig. 2).
A pump 13, with an elastic coupling 14, driven by an electric motor 15, presses the oil through a non-return valve 16 into the hydraulic circuit. The press oil enters the press-on cylinders 7 via the electro-distributors 17.
Limit switches 18, which operate the electro distributors 17, are provided on said pressing cylinders 7.
Under the influence of those limit switches 18, the pressure cylinder 7 is connected via its electro distributor 17 to the return oil cycle (dashed line). The pressure cylinder 7 deflates and the chain 6 moves along with the upper blade 2. However, the strands 19 ensure a constant return pressure in the deflating pressure cylinder 7. The pressure cylinders 7 which are mounted under the highest side of the sloping top beam 1 are not provided with an electrical distributor 17 or with a limit switch 18.
An adjustable safety valve 20 connects the press oil circuit (solid line) to the return oil circuit (dashed line) and thus determines the base pressure. The pressurized oil cycle is also provided with an accumulator 21. The return oil cycle opens into a reservoir 22.
In the initial position, when the top beam 1 is in its highest position, the chain 6 is pressed along its length with the basic pressure, determined by the adjustable safety valve 20, against the plate strip to be cut. This pressure zone decreases as the length of the stripped sheet metal strip increases. Once the plate strip on one
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is cut off at a certain location, the limit switch 18 will change its position under the influence of the sagging of the chain 6, the electro-distributors 17, of the pressing cylinders 7 providing the base pressure at that location. In this way, the respective pressure cylinders 7 are cut off from the press oil circuit and connected to the return oil circuit.
The strands 19 provide a slight return pressure in the deflating pressure cylinders so that the cut-off plate strip does not hang down but is pressed against the upper knife 2. It is only when the strip is detached from the plate at a certain point that the basic pressure changes into the return pressure. The return oil then flows from the pressure cylinders 7 via the electro-distributors 17 to the reservoir 22.
The safety valve 20 allows control of the base pressure to adapt it to the material to be cut.
The limit switches 18 can also be adjusted in function of the plate thickness.
