<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DESCRIPTION associated with a
INVENTION PATENT APPLICATION in the name of "Snauwaert and Depla N. V." for "Handle for hitting objects, such as tennis or similar rackets, hockey sticks, mallets, etc."
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a handle for hitting objects, such as tennis or similar rackets, hockey sticks, hammers, etc.
The object of the invention is to prescribe a handle of the intended type which is capable of damping vibrations caused by every stroke of the instrument than is the case with ordinary handles.
In order to achieve this according to the invention, the handle according to the invention is formed by an elongated core which is surrounded at least over the part of the handle, which is gripped by the hand, by a damping material, around which damping material a hard but light deformable layer is applied.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the above-mentioned damping material consists of a foam material.
According to another possible embodiment, the above-mentioned fabric consists of a solid fabric.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a hitting handle for hitting objects, such as tennis or similar rackets, hockey sticks, etc., according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a handle according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a section through line II-II of Figure 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through a handle without damping material.
Figure 4 is a section through line IV-IV of Figure 2.
The handle according to the invention consists of a core 1 which ensures the structural connection between the handle and the striking object. This part transfers the force of the hand from the hand to the instrument. Through this part, the triggered vibrations reach the user's hand.
It is clear that these vibrations result in additional user fatigue. The object of the invention is precisely to remedy this drawback.
In order to damp these vibrations, a structure can be devised according to figures 1 and 2 which show a handle according to the invention.
In the embodiment according to these figures, the core 1 is surrounded by a layer of damping fabric 2. The damping fabric 2 completely encloses the core 1, as the longitudinal section makes clear.
The cushioning fabric may be a solid fabric but may also consist of a foam material, depending on the density of the material in relation to the mass distribution in the instrument.
Around the damping fabric 2 there is a layer 3 which provides the shape of the handle and which is itself more or less deformable. This material is solid or can also take the form of rigid foam. The hard material layer 3 is arranged in such a way that no direct contact between this layer and the core 1 is possible.
Finally, the handle is still completely surrounded on the outside by a finishing tape 4 to prevent the appliance from slipping out of hand. The finishing ribbon
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
can also consist of a fabric that makes it feel soft. Referring now to the longitudinal and cross-sectional views of Figures 3 and 4, it is noted that the core 1 is in direct contact with the hard layer 3. Notwithstanding the finish of the handle of Figures 3 and 4, the presence is also claimed from a finishing ribbon 4, the vibrations from the core 1 easily pass to the user's hand because the hard layer 3 cannot function as a damping layer.
Due to the presence of the damping material in a handle according to the invention (Figures 1 and 2), the core of the impact object can move in the envelope formed by the hard layer 3. This damping layer therefore absorbs all vibrations, vibrations that are not transferred by the core.
The hard layer 3 can consist of rubber or an elastomer.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and that many modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the patent application.
Although Figures 2 and 4 show octagonal cross-sections, it is clear that, depending on the intended purpose, these cross-sections can be rectangular, oval or round.
