Abstract

The wind power generator comprises a central vertical shaft (A) with four pairs of radial spokes (D). Each pair carries the vertical shaft (A') of a Flettner-type rotor (C). Radial further outward extensions of the upper spokes (D) each carry a vertical shaft of a Savonius-type rotor (F). - The shafts are coupled either via friction wheels (E',E) to rotate in opposite directions, or via belt pulleys to rotate in the same direction. Power take-off is from a pulley (B) on the central shaft. FL.(1/2)

30 At least two Flettner rotors must be present to function self-starting.

40 Standing at A, the Flettner rotors gradually build up a suitable starting torque by means of the wind-accelerating Savonius rotors.

50 During part of the revolution about axis A, one has a negative torque. This is amply surpassed by the sum of the positive torques since the negative torque is produced in a place where the wind has already weakened considerably by the rotors passing by.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

60 The diameters of the end plates on the Savonius and Flettner rotors must be in an appropriate relationship with the respective rotors.

70 I proposes a transmission from SR to FR by means of a friction clutch. F and C rotate in opposite directions here. Speed ratio is the same as the ratio of their diameters.

8 II proposes a transfer from SR to FR by means of a belt and pulleys. F and C rotate in the same direction, their speeds are proportional to their diameters.

90 In the drawing, the top view was taken with

two and the side view with four Flettner rotors are presented. t 100 The axes A, A are all mutually parallel and perpendicular to the earth's surface: one can therefore speak of a vertical axis turbine, although other positions may be used.

1to The central axis A may be dressed by a Savonius rotor.

1'2c The Savonius rotors (F, G) as well as their coupling (E, E) may be removed and the Flettner cylinders C simultaneously converted into Savonius rotors. In such a case there may be a pure Flettner-Savonius combination.
