Abstract

The system uses the Magnus effect on a vertical axis wind turbine which is mounted on the mast or the mast stays of a boat. The wind turbine can have a Savonius or Darrius type rotor which may also be used for generation of electricity. Following the wind directions, the sense of rotation of the turbine may be inverted under mechanical or electrical power, and a propulsive force obtained. The regulation of the force can be by altering the angle of attack of the blades, by aerodynamic, mechanical, magnetic or other braking, or by variation of the height of the blades by enclosing one set in another.

Description

  DESCRIPTION.

 <EMI ID=1.1>

 <EMI ID=2.1>

(Fig. n[deg.] 1 et 2)

(Fig. 2)

  DESCRIPTION.

 <EMI ID = 1.1>

Propulsion of the boat by the force of the wind

take advantage of the Magnus effect by vertical axis wind turbine

 <EMI ID = 2.1>

and / or production of energy (electric or other) via generator, or other. (Fig. N [deg.] 1 and 2)

For this purpose, depending on the wind direction, the direction of rotation of the wind turbine can be reversed by mechanical, electrical or other control. By the same operation, the wind turbine can be stopped. These maneuvers are performed by rotating the vertical blades on their own axis. (Fig. 2)

As pace moderator, we can plan:
- change the angle of attack of the blades
- aerodynamic, mechanical, magnetic or other brake, with adjustable load
- variation of height of the wind turbine by interlocking of segments of blades one inside the other.

To facilitate starting of the wind turbine, a Savonius rotor, which can also be reversed in its direction of rotation, is integrated.
