<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
Method and device for producing steel in a converter.
The present invention relates to a method for producing steel by refining cast iron in a blowing converter, either from the top, or from the top and from the bottom.
The price of scrap is frequently lower than that of liquid pig iron, it is interesting to put as much scrap as possible in the converter.
Numerous methods are already known for increasing the consumption of scrap metal in the converter, in particular the use of lances with double oxygen flow to burn the CO given off by the bath, the use of oxy-fuel burners to preheat the scrap metal , and the addition of anthracite to promote the formation of CO.
In addition to indisputable advantages, these methods however have a certain number of drawbacks linked in particular to the duration of preheating which reduces productivity, to the difficulty of controlling the CO combustion rate, to the resistance of the refractories and to the addition of sulfur to steel through the fuels used.
The subject of the present invention is a method making it possible to remedy these drawbacks, particularly with regard to the CO combustion rate and the addition of sulfur.
The process which is the subject of the present invention, in which oxygen is injected by means of a lance above the surface of the bath, is essentially characterized in that a fuel is injected into the stream of oxygen directed to the surface of the bath.
According to an advantageous implementation of the process of the invention, the fuel is injected along the longitudinal axis of the oxygen current, at the outlet of the lance, so as to form a flow.

oxygen.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the method of the invention, the fuel is supplied by means of conduits arranged inside the oxygen inlet channels.
Among the different fuels which can be injected in this way, it has been found advantageous, within the framework of the invention, to inject a gaseous fuel or a powdered fuel.
In this regard, it is particularly advantageous to inject coal powder.
The process of the invention makes it possible to increase the rate of combustion-
<EMI ID = 2.1>
For example, an injection of 6 kg of coal per tonne of steel increases the scrapping of scrap by 4% compared to an operation that does not involve the injection of coal.
By adjusting the quantities of fuel injected, it is possible, in particular, according to the invention, to modify the oxidation capacity of the jet, reduce the iron content of the slag and control the formation of foam at the start of blowing.
The process of the invention also makes it possible to avoid the use of heating substances, such as ferro-silicon, to reduce the incorporation into the steel of the sulfur contained in the fuels, and to favor the elimination of the sulfur by carbonated. Finally, it causes less wear of the refractories, because the flames remain in the center of the converter.
The present invention also relates to a device, essentially a lance, of the type used for blowing oxygen, making it possible to implement the process which has just been described.
This blowing lance, preferably water-cooled, which comprises a central channel, ending in several outlet channels formed in the nose of the lance, is essentially characterized in that it comprises a central tube housed in the said - central channel, and in that said central tube ends with several tubes, arranged in outlet channels from the nose of the lance.
According to an advantageous variant of the lance according to the invention

outlet tube connected to said central tube.
According to a preferred embodiment, said central tube is coaxial with the central channel of the lance, and said outlet tubes are arranged coaxially in the outlet channels of the nose of the lance.
In the context of a preferred implementation of the device of the invention, the central channel and the outlet channels are used for blowing oxygen, while the central tube and the outlet tubes are used for blowing the fuel .
The appended figure illustrates, by way of nonlimiting example, a particularly advantageous embodiment of the device of the invention.
The water-cooled oxygen lance (1) has a central channel (2) which is subdivided into a series of outlet channels (3). In this central channel is housed a central tube (4) which ends in a series of outlet tubes (5) housed in the outlet channels (3).
The fuel powder (6), for example coal, is brought in through the central tube (4) and injected through the outlet tubes
(5) in the oxygen jets (7), where it forms a substantially coaxial current (8).
The lance according to the invention also makes it possible to operate with a conventional oxygen lance; it suffices to interrupt the fuel supply to the central tube. On the other hand, when fuel is blown, the lance functions like a torch, the composition and length of the flame of which can be adjusted by simple variation of the quantity of fuel injected.
