<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

<EMI ID=13.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=16.1>
<EMI ID=17.1>

<EMI ID=20.1>

neral, to a spinning device in which two mobile strands are twisted together to form a wire with two strands or strands. Examples of methods for obtaining such threads, as well as apparatus for implementing these methods, have been described in particular in Australian patents n [deg.] 438,072 and 473,153, in British patents 1,062,594 , 1.256.528 and
1,263,285, as well as in U.S. patents
<EMI ID = 3.1>
written in these various publications, the strands feel combined by being twisted together; they can be twisted in the individual strands, in addition to the twisting operation between the strands, as in
the case of the wire described in each of the two Australian patents, or else they may not be twisted in the strands, only undergoing the operation of twisting the strands together.
The present invention is of particular interest in the case where the processes mentioned above are implemented on a spinning loom normally comprising 200 units or more in which two or more strands are fed separately from a common station.
or separate drawing and brought to converge to form a unitary wire which is sent to a suitable winding spindle.
During the operation of such spinning looms, it may happen that a strand of a converging group of strands breaks and the or each remaining strand continues to be supplied to the winding spindle in the form of a defective wire. . When the defect, for example a single wire, is detected by the operator or when the remaining strand also breaks, a considerable length of single wire has generally already been produced; a very serious defect could thus be introduced into the material finally obtained, in particular in the case where the output thread of the loom is used to feed a loom or the like.
According to the invention, this problem is solved by causing without delay also the rupture of the unbroken strand (s), so that any unit
<EMI ID = 4.1>
rupture quickly ceases all production rather than
continue to produce an unsatisfactory output material. To achieve this result, the invention uses a modification of the trajectory of the remaining strand or strands, this modification resulting from the fact that the combined beam has lost a strand in movement.
The invention provides an apparatus for spinning a wire with two strands or strands during a willow operation from two separate mobile strands, this apparatus comprising a drawing unit for stretching the strands away from the one from the other from separate wicks, and also comprising a rotary spindle for twisting together the stretched strands and for winding the two-strand wire thus formed, the twisting action being such that it creates a point of distinct convergence between the two constituent strands,
<EMI ID = 5.1>
torsion blocking device is provided in the vicinity of the abovementioned point of convergence so that, when one strand breaks, the other can then adopt a modified trajectory during which it receives the action of the torsion blocking device so practically completely blocking the movement of torsion towards the part of this and other strand, situated between the aforementioned blocking device and the stretching unit, so as to cause this other strand to also rupture.
A suction device is advantageously provided in the vicinity of the point of convergence for collecting the broken strands and accelerating the breakage of the unbroken strand.
The invention also relates to a method
spinning a two-strand or stranded wire during a

The invention will be described more fully below, by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying non-limiting drawings.

Figure 2 is a schematic front view of the upper part of the section of Figure 1, in operation with strands moving intact. Figure 3 corresponds to Figure 2 but shows the state of the section shortly after the rupture of one of the strands. Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 already Figure 1. Figure 5 corresponds to Figure 4 but under the operating conditions of Figure 3.
The apparatus illustrated schematically in Figures 1 to 5 constitutes a section of a spinning loom with multiple sections. It comprises means for feeding strands, in the form of a traditional stretching unit which, in operation, attracts a pair of fibrous strands 3.3a away from one another at the start. separate wicks l, la. A split wire guide 14 is disposed in the vicinity of the natural point of equilibrium 9a of the strands. The device 13 ensuring the rupture of the strands is disposed between the guide 14 and the guide eyelet 4 which is also a form of wire guide.

One of the rollers or rollers 8 is a smooth roller, while the other roller 7 has an open part 11 semi-cylindrical (Figures 2 and 3) cut over a part of the length of one of the sides. The disengaged part 11 is positioned such that, when the rollers rotate, the strands assembled during movement are caused to pass centrally through this part at intermittent intervals, but, according to a preferred characteristic of the present invention, such that we can see it
<EMI ID = 12.1>
so that its extent, longitudinally to the roller 7, is somewhat less than the space separating the strands 3.3a on the stretching rollers 2.
As mentioned, the wire guide 14
is located in the vicinity of the natural point of convergence 9a of the strands. The point of convergence itself can normally be located approximately 3 cm from the points at which the strands are clamped by the front rollers of the stretching unit 2. The guide 14 is practically not mobile towards the spindle spindle .. 6 but it is
<EMI ID = 13.1>
general rection of displacement of the strands due to sufficient lateral stress, applied by the residual strand when one of the strands breaks. More specifically, the guide 14 consists of the outer end of an arm 34 rotatably mounted on a spindle 32 which itself is part of a support 30. The arm 34 is housed between two inclined spans 54,55 (Figure 4) forming a centering device for the guide in order to ensure that the converging strands do not inadvertently leave the cleared portion 11 of the roller 7. Each span is provided on a hanging portion of the support 30 and 'form- a short, steeper face 54a, 55a in the vicinity of its internal edge. These latter faces prevent lateral movement of the guide in the absence of sufficient lateral reaction between the guide and the bearing. The positions of <EMI ID = 14.1>
shortly after a strand rupture is illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 respectively.
In normal operation of the device (Figure 2), the strands 3.3a are attracted by the front stretching rollers of the stretching mechanism and fed via the guide 14, the pair of rollers 7,8 and the eyelet of guide 4 on pin 6 in the form of a wire
two strands or strands 9.
Figure 3 illustrates the reaction of the device to the rupture of one of the strands, for example of the strand 3a. The ruptured end of this strand is drawn, as shown, into the inlet of the suction pipe
20 but the other strand 3 continues to move towards the spindle 6 in the form of a single defective strand.

is not immediately applied to the guide 14 movable laterally, due to the tension existing in the remaining strand. This force is sufficient to release the guide in order to allow the strand 3 to move laterally towards what is then its pre-path.

mitée of this part released 11 in the circumferential direction helps this movement of the strand, because a continuous discontinuity would tend to prevent additional lateral movement of the strand.
The strand 3 is thus clamped indefinitely between the rollers 7,8, thus almost completely blocking the torsional movement along the strand in the direction of the stretching unit 2. The value of the twist between this clamping point and l The stretching unit decreases rapidly while the strand continues to move towards the spindle 6. In this way, the cohesion of the strand is weakened in the point that the fibers

being collected by the suction pipe 20. It has been observed that this rupture takes place relatively quickly.

coming from the pipe 20, which accelerates the rupture of the strand to the point that the single section of wire will not normally have yet reached the spindle 6.
Note that the axial size of the part
<EMI ID = 20.1>
of a number of considerations. It must determine a sufficiently small spacing or spacing to leave a reasonable margin of undefined tightening
on the other side of the cleared part, this spacing being however large enough to allow
variations in the position of the assembled strands resulting from both short-term natural fluctuations and fluctuations created during winding.
