<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

<EMI ID=11.1>

<EMI ID=13.1>

The subject of the present invention is an articulated solfier intended to be used in connection with a mattress of determined rigidity with a view to producing a bed ensuring adequate support for the human body at rest.
A great deal of research has been done in recent years with a view to providing beds ensuring the human body, and more particularly the spine, a correct position for rest. This research focused on the two elements of the bed involved in this position: the box spring and the mattress.
It is currently accepted that the position of the spine at rest is of great importance, a position incorporated
<EMI ID = 1.1>
resulting in the appearance of stiffness and, in the long run, deformation.
It has already been proposed for a long time, in order to remedy the longitudinal collapse of the box springs, to strengthen their rigidity. This was achieved in particular by the so-called box springs
"slatted".
However, in these mattresses with increased rigidity, a satisfactory solution has not yet been found to the problem posed by the projection of the shoulder and the pelvis, in the supine position, on the side and, to a lesser extent, to the problem posed by the projection of the dorsal kyphosis and the buttocks in the supine position, on the back, which respectively leave the spine unsupported in line with the hollow of the hip and the hollow of the kidneys.
Solutions for forming box springs conforming to the configuration of the body have already been proposed in Belgian patent n [deg.] 866,764, which plans to constitute the bed base of a multitude of small elastic bodies which retract individually under the weight of the body. , and in Belgian patent 781.040, which plans to constitute a box spring from a series of rockers, arranged in a stepped progression.
These solutions are relatively complex, and are also intended to distribute the support pressure of the bed base in an identical manner throughout the body.
Applicants have now surprisingly found that particularly satisfactory results are achieved when the bed base can give way under the pressure of the protrusion of the shoulder and the pelvis (or the protrusion of the kyphosis <EMI ID = 2.1>
of. this depression, in the region of the hollow of the hip (or of the hollow of the kidneys), these various support actions being exerted on the body by means of a mattress of determined rigidity,
<EMI ID = 3.1>
the protruding parts of the shoulder and the pelvis are supported in the same way as the other parts of the body, but at a level lower than the average level of the box spring, while the hollow of the hip is the object of a higher support pressure, allowing correct support of the spine over its entire length.
These objects are achieved according to the invention by providing an articulated bed base. provided with rockers pivoting around transverse axes, parallel to the plane of the bed base, and divided into three parts, namely a head part, a central part and a foot part, remarkable in particular in that the rockers are essentially the number of two, adjacent and arranged in the central part of the box spring, in that their pivot axes divide them into two asymmetrical arms, the rockers being adjacent by their small arm, and in that the rocker located on the side of the head part is longer than the scale located on the side of the foot part.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the description, at the same time as to the appended drawing, which represents, by way of example only, various embodiments of the invention, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in section and in elevation of an extremely simplified embodiment, giving the principle of the invention,
FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the invention,
FIG. 3 gives a view in elevation and in section along A-A of the embodiment of FIG. 2,
- Figure 4 shows, in section and in elevation, another embodiment of the bed base of the invention.
Prior to 1 = description of the drawings, it should be noted that for the sake of clarity of representation, in all the embodiments of the invention illustrated, the rockers have been shown in the stressed position. It goes without saying, however, that in the unsolicited position, the bed base adopts a <EMI ID = 4.1>

flip-flops.
Referring now to the extremely simplified embodiment shown in Figure 1, a box spring 1 according to the invention is divided essentially into three parts, namely a head part 2, a central part 3 and a foot part
4. The central part 3 consists of two rockers 5, 6, respectively, articulated around transverse axes 7, 8, parallel to the plane of the bed base, these axes being arranged approximately
<EMI ID = 6.1>
adjacent sides. In this way, the axis 7 divides the rocker 5 into a large arm 9 and a small arm 10 and the axis 8 divides the rocker 6 into a large arm 11 and a small arm 12. The rocker 5 is of greater length that the rocker 6, and an interval 13, 14 separates the end of the rockers 5 and 6 respectively from the head part 2 and the foot part 4.
According to the invention, scales 5 and 6 are respectively

<EMI ID = 8.1>
launcher (or the protrusion of the dorsal kyphosis of the hollow of the kidneys) and at the distance separating the projection from the pelvis from the hollow of the hip (or the distance separating the projection from the buttocks from the hollow of the kidneys). In the drawing, the operation of the device of the invention is shown when it is subjected to the action of the weight of a user in the supine position, on the side, with the interposition of a mattress of sufficient rigidity, such as a "multispire" type mattress.
During the action of the user's weight, the shoulder pushes on the large arm 9 of the rocker 5 and, as a result, the small arm 10 reacts by exerting a push on the hollow of the hip, the rocker pivoting to an equilibrium position; Likewise for the rocker 6, the large arm 11 of which yields under the pressure of the projection of the pelvis while the small arm 12, by reaction, exerts a pressure on the hollow of the hip. The mattress interposed between the user and the box spring distributes these various actions and reactions so that the protrusions of the shoulder and the pelvis are naturally arranged in the hollows
of the bed base, while the region of the hollow of the hip is particularly well supported, thus ensuring over the entire length <EMI ID = 9.1>
<EMI ID = 10.1>
represented in FIGS. 2 and 3, the bed base comprises a frame l 'provided with an internal rim 13 on which slide a chassis 14 carrying the rockers 5 and 6, chassis of which the pivot axes 7 and 8 are integral, and a chassis 15 carrying the foot part.
<EMI ID = 11.1>
the interval 13 between the rocker 5 and the head part, while a second flap 17 is articulated to the frame 15 and is arranged in the interval 14 between the rocker 6 and the foot part 4.
The rocker 5 is secured to two guides 18, which extend beyond the useful length of the rocker to support the end slat of the flap 16, while the rocker 6 is secured to two guides 19, which also extend beyond the useful length of the rocker 6 to support the end slat of the flap 17.
A strap 20 connects with a certain play the rocker 5 to the rocker 6, in order to limit their pivoting beyond a given value, greater than the maximum pivoting during use.
The leg part is made, in a known manner, pivoting about a transverse axis, in order to be able to be inclined and maintained in this inclined position, for example by a crank and rack system.
The internal rim 13 of the chassis has a series of orifices 21, 22 for the passage of fastening members for the chassis.

last on frame 1 '. In this way, it is possible to adjust the interval separating the central part respectively from the head part and the foot part, and thus adapt the bed base to the user.
According to the more simplified embodiment of Figure 4, the frames 14 and 15 have been replaced by a single frame 23, carrying both the components of the central part and the foot part. Indeed, it has been found that in adults, the variations in the distance separating the protrusion of the pelvis from the hollow of the hip are in a relatively narrow range, while significant variations are noted with regard to the distance separating the protruding from!
<EMI ID = 13.1>
<EMI ID = 14.1>
corresponds to a setting on the bed base of the distance separating
the head part of the central part. This adjustment is made possible by the presence of a series of orifices 24 for the passage of fastening members of the chassis 23.
It goes without saying, however, that these various adjustments could also be made by providing the movable head part.
and at least the fixed central part. The main thing is that one can modify the relative position of these various parts together, in the longitudinal direction of the bed base, in order to adapt it to the dimensions of the user.
The invention has been described and illustrated simply by way of non-limiting example, and it goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to its production without departing from its spirit.
