<EMI ID=7.1>

"device for longitudinally absorbing expansion forces in isostatic pressing." The invention relates to a device for longitudinally absorbing expansion forces arising after isostatic pressing in a deformable mold, of moldings in a pressure cavity for isostatic pressing of moldings the length of which is substantially, but not exclusively, considerably greater than the width.
When compacting materials, isostatic pressing is already widely used as a shaping and / or compaction process. Both in the so-called wet and dry molding technique, molds are often pressed which have a fairly long dimension compared to the cross-section of said shapes.
Especially with the "dry form" method, longer pieces are usually only radially pressed in a closed pressure cavity.
Radial pressing usually results in a final force on the upper and lower parts of the compression cavity, depending on the pressed material, which produces a preload on the top and on the bottom of the pressed piece.
When the pressure drops, the radial pressure drops completely, but stresses remain on the ends of the molding. This can cause damage to the pressed molding. Usually, the compressed molding also tends to expand elastically in the longitudinal direction after the pressure drops. This phenomenon can be exacerbated by the fact that the pressure cavity expands under the higher pressure, thus also extends, and tries to return to its original dimensions when printed. The pressure cavity therefore tries to shorten in the longitudinal direction, whereby the tension on the ends of the press piece is still increased. The possibility of damage to it
<EMI ID = 1.1>
The object of the invention is to prescribe a device which obviates the above-mentioned drawbacks, so that the damage or breaking of press pieces is not to be feared, residual stresses in the press piece are avoided while the blocking of the press equipment no longer occurs. .
To this end, in the above-mentioned pressure cavity equipped with at least one shut-off member, at least one floating element is provided which acts under the influence of the person exerted. pressure, or in the event of its failure, can move along the longitudinal axis of the pressure cavity, in the first case in order to exert the necessary pressure on the molding in the longitudinal direction and in the second case, in case of failure of said pressure, the absorb longitudinal expansion forces.
According to a first form of implementation of the
<EMI ID = 2.1>
material and a pressure cavity closure member is mounted.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the above-mentioned floating element is formed by a
cage extending in the longitudinal direction of the above-mentioned pressure
9 cavite it can move between a closing member and an end wall of this pressure cavity.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of an apparatus for longitudinally absorbing expansion forces
<EMI ID = 3.1>
writing is given as an example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 refers to a pressure cavity with <EMI ID = 4.1>
work according to the hitherto accepted technology.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through a pressure cavity equipped with a floating element according to a first variant. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through a pressure cavity according to the invention, equipped with a floating element according to the second variant.
Referring first to Figure 1, it is noted that the pressure cavity 1, equipped with a diaphragm 2, is at the bottom
and is closed at the top by parts which form closing members 3 and 4 at the end of the compaction process, the press piece has the dimensions indicated by the broken lines 5.
When the pressure between diaphragm 2 and inner wall of the pressure cavity L drops, the radial pressure stops the press piece, but, due to pressure transfer in the pressed molding, a final force remains on the closing members 3 and
4 exist. This can sometimes make it impossible to open the pressure cavity, so that, as has already been stated above, damage to the press piece can be feared.
According to the invention, according to a first embodiment, a device is used which is schematically represented by figure 2.
Use is also made here of a pressure cavity 1 closed by closing members 3 and 4
and internally equipped with a diaphragm 2 for compaction

are indicated by the broken lines 6.
<EMI ID = 6.1>
a floating element 7 which can move as a piston between the internal wall of the closing member 3 and the
<EMI ID = 7.1>
along one end of the press, although the floating element could in principle occur along both ends of the press.
The pressure required to keep the floating element 7 in place during the pressing step can be applied by means of a fluid such as a liquid or a gas, but also by applying a mechanical force the floating element can be applied during the pressing step be kept in its proper place.
When the liquid or gas pressure or the mechanical force just quoted drops, the longitudinal pressure exerted on the press piece is also lost. In these circumstances, opening the pressure cavity by removing the closing member 3 presents no problem. The expansion forces that extend in the longitudinal direction
<EMI ID = 8.1>
becoming itself when removing the floating element
7 completely neutralized.
In the embodiment according to figure 3 use is made of a floating element in the form of a
cage 9 with a diaphragm 2 mounted therein.
Between the end wall 10 of the pressure cavity 1 and the external wall 11 of the transverse wall of the cage 9, a space 13 is provided in which a pressure can be applied by a fluid
<EMI ID = 9.1>
will press molding or toward the closure member 12. During the pressing step, the cage 9 is kept blocked in the position shown in figure 3. The displacement of the cage 9 can also be carried out pneumatically or mechanically. According to the same embodiment, a cylindrical space is provided between the floating cage 9 and the inner wall of the pressure cavity 1 in which a liquid can circulate under pressure. The liquid reaches it
<EMI ID = 10.1>
12 can be easily released when the hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical pressure on the floating cage is released. For convenience, spaces 13 and 14 are interconnected and the floating cage 9 in its longitudinal movement relative to the pressure cavity L is guided by guide elements not shown in Figure 3 and centered by a head 16 which is in a corresponding recess 17
of the pressure cavity 1 fits.
It is therefore very clear from the description given above of two embodiments of a device according to the invention that the clamping of the press piece in a pressure cavity and mainly between this pressure cavity
and a closing member or between two closing members thereof is no longer to be feared.
The invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and many changes can be made thereto
