<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
Indien men anderzijds een belangrijke hoeveelheid organische stoffen, zoals ethanol of enige andere organische
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>

<EMI ID=12.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>

<EMI ID=17.1>
<EMI ID=18.1>
<EMI ID=19.1>

Method for treating waste water.
In general, the techniques currently used for wastewater treatment mainly include
<EMI ID = 1.1> b) destruction of pollutants present in the water: biological oxidation with activated sludge, carbonization by chemical oxidation, anaerobic digestion, etc.
Among the methods involving the destruction of pollutants, oxidation is one of the most important, as evidenced by the generally accepted indices for indicating the degree of contamination of water, namely BOD, COD and TOC.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
del, but it is hardly any reaction at room temperature. It is possible to act on three factors to increase the oxidation rate:
a) increase in temperature; b) use of a catalyst; c) use of activated sludge, which is a kind of natural catalyst of oxidation processes.
High temperature as a means of destroying pollutants is used in carbonization furnaces, where waste waters are heated to 1000 - 1200 [deg.] C. At such temperatures, pollutants become fully oxidized in less than 1.5 seconds. However, it is not necessary to reach such high temperatures; is normally
<EMI ID = 3.1>
reduction in the COD. The process consisting of the oxidant of pollutants at temperatures above 105 [deg.] C and pressures above 2 bar has been termed "wet oxidation" and that is the definition adopted in the present invention, but <EMI ID = 4.1>
oxidizing agent. The disadvantages with regard to the use of air in this method are obvious; such disadvantages
<EMI ID = 5.1>
To the excessively large reactors ala result from the presence of nitrogen and the lower reactivity of air compared to pure oxygen.
It has now been found that the use of pure oxygen instead of air in this process leads to significant advantages. A further advantage is achieved in the case
of use of liquid oxygen, since the latter can be stored in the tank and pumped into the oxidation plant in the liquid phase using a high pressure pump. The oxygen then evaporates in an evaporator, thus breaking a pressure corresponding to the pump head in its gaseous state,
in this way a considerable saving of compression energy and a much lower investment is achieved.
<EMI ID = 6.1>
substance or a gaseous mixture containing oxygen with a concentration above 60% by volume.
A further object of the invention consists of
<EMI ID = 7.1>
is subjected to wet oxidation. Such heating is performed in four different ways:
1) Autogenous heating
In the "wet oxidation" mode of operation, it is
<EMI ID = 8.1>
water to be purified to obtain good purification, but in most cases it is necessary to work
at a temperature of 250 [deg.] C (and even more if one wishes to shorten the contact time); on increasing the oxidation temperature, an increase in oxidation yield and a decrease in contact time are obtained.
If, on the other hand, a significant amount of organic matter, such as ethanol or any other organic matter, is used
<EMI ID = 9.1>
purification water to be subjected, reaction heat is developed as soon as a temperature of 220-250 [deg.] C is reached. This heat
<EMI ID = 10.1>
which represents a significant increase in the initial COD, but it should be remembered that, due to the temperature increase obtained by this addition, the wet oxide
<EMI ID = 11.1>
treating waste water to purification in their natural state.
2) Flame heating
Instead of supplying organics as previously described to raise the temperature of the water, direct heating was carried out using a flame in steel pipe furnaces, resulting in temperatures of
300 [deg.] C and even 400 [deg.] C could easily be reached.
<EMI ID = 12.1>
Another possibility that was investigated was to use molten salt mixtures, e.g. sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and sodium nitrite, which are solid up to 150 [deg.] C and become liquefied at higher temperatures and without problems
<EMI ID = 13.1> <EMI ID = 14.1>
the above-mentioned salts are processed in a separate device.
<EMI ID = 15.1>
The oxidation temperature of the waste water has also been reached by direct injection of steam into the reactor, and after the oxidation, the effluent is cooled by direct injection of cold water.
A further object of the invention is provided by the addition of ozone to the oxidation
<EMI ID = 16.1>
layers of the oxidation temperature, using catalysts, but this phenomenon has only been verified for the vapor phase, while the use of catalysts in the liquid
<EMI ID = 17.1>
recovery and recirculation of the catalyst, which in most cases is a solid.
It has now been found that if one uses ozone
<EMI ID = 18.1>
not only achieves greater advantages in the use of catalysts, but as ozone produces oxygen in the course of the oxidation reaction, one no longer faces the problem of its recovery or the phenomenon
<EMI ID = 19.1>
A further object of the invention is the wet oxidation plant, illustrated by way of example but not limiting for other embodiments, in the drawing.
<EMI ID = 20.1>

added using ozonator P.
<EMI ID = 23.1>
the curing temperature brought into fischer C using a suitable diathermic liquid.
The diathermic liquid is continuously heated by a flame furnace 0 and forced to circulate by pump N, while the required output liquefaction takes place in container M.
The wastewater heated in the above manner is sent to reactor D, where it remains for the time necessary to obtain the oxidation, and is then cooled in exchanger E, where heat is recovered in the form of vapor. At discharge (9), the waste water is led to separator F and (10) to exchanger G and finally discharged (11).
The invention is further illustrated by the following examples.
Example I

<EMI ID = 27.1>
the oxidation temperature of 250 [deg.] C. The feed etfluent had a COD of 4.830 mg / L and a phenol content of 113 mg / L without stirring in the reactor and 10 mg / L with stirring in the reactor. Example VI

<EMI ID = 29.1>
up to 163,000 mg / l by the addition of the same pollutants present in the wastewater was treated in the wet oxidation plant, as shown in the drawing. The temperature
<EMI ID = 30.1>
for some time even exceeded these values; the discharge effluent had a COD of only 138 mg / l.
Example VII
Sole wastewater with an initial COD of 67,000 mg / 1

The above-mentioned waste water, of which the COD
was increased to 423,000 mg / l by the addition of the contaminants, treated at the wet oxidation plant shown in the drawing. The temperature rose from an initial value
de from 245 [deg.] C to an operative value between 290 and 305 C and <EMI ID = 32.1>
Similar pocitive results were obtained by adding organic water-soluble substances, such as ethanol, to the wastewater to be treated.
Example VIII
