DOMPELWEERSTAND
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

rechtstreeks is tegen gelast.

<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>

DIP RESISTANCE
An electric heating element is designed and calculated for a specific environment (gas, liquid or solid) to which it can release its heat generated by the Joule effect.
Now a heating resistor designed to e.g. Bringing water to a boil usually will when he falls through the water level in it
the air or water vapor present above it
<EMI ID = 2.1>
can become so hot that it destroys itself.
Another cause of overheating could arise from the calcification of the heating element, which creates an insulating layer between the element and the liquid to be heated. At atmospheric pressure it will be a heating element
<EMI ID = 3.1>
The boiling temperature is naturally higher with steam boilers.
We could describe a method to prevent the heating element from burning or melting through for the above-mentioned causes as follows:
We control the temperature on the surface of the heating element by means of a
<EMI ID = 4.1>
directly against welded. When a specific temperature limit is now exceeded, a switching system is activated that permanently interrupts the supply current to the element. A tell-tale can also be activated with this interruption.
The whole system consists of three essential parts:
1) The sensor
2) A switch block that amplifies the sensor signal
and compares with a set value.
3) The shutdown system.
1) THE SENSOR.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
a small tube which is welded on the closed side directly to the heating element to be protected or soldered with a silver or copper alloy. The open side of the metal tube is fed through a hole that was drilled in
the heating element mounting plate
or in the boiler wall, and now the tube is welded again. As a result, the whole has remained watertight and we can still reach a place on the heating element from the outside to check the temperature there by means of
<EMI ID = 6.1>
The sensor itself, which is located on the sealed side of the tube, can be of many kinds. In addition to an NTC, a PTC or a semiconductor, the choice of the thermocouple turned out to be the most ideal. Due to the simplicity and almost indestructibility of the thermocouple, we have here a building block in the system that is certainly not out of place in a security device.
2) THE SWITCH BLOCK
The electrical voltage from the thermocouple is in the order of a few millivolts. This voltage is now amplified to the order of a few volts. This signal is directly related to the temperature of the sensor
and of course also with that of the heating element, is now compared with a voltage that is
we can adjust with a coarse and a fine adjustment. If the signal (temperature) exceeds the set limit, the comparator in turn gives a pulse that will activate the interrupter.
3) THE SWITCHING SYSTEM
<EMI ID = 7.1>
indeed prefer a static component because everything else in the system
<EMI ID = 8.1>
is in current value and when it is sufficiently cooled, we have here a component with a very long life, which is recommended in a security system.
Furthermore, the system is designed in such a way that, in the event of a shutdown, this state will automatically become
<EMI ID = 9.1>
can now only be restored by human intervention and after the work condition has been fulfilled again.
Resetting is done in a very simple way, namely by briefly (a few seconds) interrupting the power supply to the protection device. Usually, however, the latter will be built into the totality and then it is sufficient to switch off the entire appliance to be protected and switch it on again.
Since a security device must guarantee the highest possible operational reliability, a kind of self-monitoring has also been incorporated.
Namely, this self-control or auto-protection will withhold the heating element from power supply, when one of the connections between the

interrupted.
