"Rotary biological reactor for the biological treatment of wastewater and installations applying this reactor" This invention relates to the treatment of wastewater by biological means using a rotary biological reactor.
The essential element of the invention applies a completely new design in the constitution of the rotary reactor.
It has already been proposed to produce rotary reactors, in particular by using an indeterminate number of discs mounted on the same axis in connection with a drive device, said discs being partially engaged in an underlying basin containing the water to be treated.
Despite the interesting results, it can be criticized that such a rotary reactor has an insufficient volume / active surface ratio.
The present invention reveals a novel design, the conformation and execution of the reactor of which are such that, for a given volume, said volume / surface ratio is very significantly increased. For this purpose, the rotary biological reactor according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it consists of a number of concentric cylinders of different diameters leaving annular spaces between them, said concentric cylinders being mutually secured, thus forming a drum. mounted on a
axis so that the assembly can rotate freely while being partially engaged in a basin containing the water to be treated.

In an installation such as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1, the biological reactor 1 is partially engaged in the reaction vessel 2, said biological reactor being capable of being driven in a rotational movement 5 predetermined speed with the intervention of the motor 3 and of the belt
