Process for making metallurgical coke.
The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing metallurgical coke which can be used in particular as a constituent of the blast furnace feed.
The manufacture of metallurgical coke generally practiced at the present time consists in placing the raw materials, mainly coking coal, - in carbonization cells and in heating these materials which, by distillation and agglutination, give products having the well-known form coke used in metallurgical plants.
Difficulties of an economic nature are currently encountered in such production because of the reduction in the reserves of coking coal and the increase in the price of these coals. These difficulties also become more acute owing to the need to diversify the energy sources used in industry, in order to better adapt consumption to existing reserves.
For many years now, attempts have been made to overcome the difficulties and drawbacks described above, by using as high a percentage as possible of non-coking coal. Processes are thus known which consist in agglomerating non-coking fine coal, for example in the form of balls or briquettes, with optionally additions of solvents and / or binders, and in placing these raw agglomerates in a carbonization cell with fine coal. coking.
The most frequent addition is constituted by
pitch; However, this has the drawback of being expensive and its use as a binder in the manufacture of agglomerate based on non-coking fine coal is heavily felt in the cost price of the metallurgical coke thus obtained.
Other materials have been sought having properties capable of acting either as a solvent or as a binder.
Tests of replacement processes carried out by the applicant have made it possible to observe that the metallurgical coke obtained in this way has good quality indices and makes it possible to increase the productivity of the coking oven without adversely affecting the quality of the gas.
The object of the present invention is precisely such a replacement method.
The process, object of the present invention, in which non-coking fine coal is agglomerated in order to then put the said raw agglomerate into a carbonization cell with coking fine coal is essentially characterized
in that the agglomeration of the non-coking fine carbon is carried out in the presence of a solvent and / or binder consisting of
less of a plastic.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, the plastic material constituting the solvent and / or binder consists
polyethylene or polyethylene derivatives and in particular polyethylene glycol.
According to a second embodiment of the invention, the plastic material constituting the solvent and / or binder consists
as polyesterification products between on the one hand, phthalic acid and in particular terephthalic acid and on the other hand, glycol (polyesters).
According to another form of the invention, the plastic material constituting the solvent and / or binder consists of polystyrene.
According to yet another form of the invention, the plastic material constituting the solvent and / or binder comes from the recovery of manufacturing residues or of manufactured products (used products such as, for example, packaging).
According to the invention, the solvent and / or binder may also be composed of a mixture of a plastic material on the one hand and pitch and / or tar on the other hand.
Also according to the invention, the agglomeration of non-coking fine coal can be carried out with or without special shaping such as that of balls, briquettes, chips, splits, cakes, etc.
7. A method according to either of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the plastic material constituting the solvent and / or binder comes from the recovery of manufacturing residues or manufactured products (used products such as for example packaging).
8. A method according to one or other of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the solvent and / or binder is composed of a mixture of a plastic material on the one hand. and pitch and / or tar on the other hand.
9. A method according to either of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the agglomeration of the non-coking fine coal is carried out with special shaping such as that of balls, briquettes, chips, splits, pancakes.
