ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS
FROM CHARLEROI (ACEC)
There are already terminal bases made up of an insulating body, for example made of filled synthetic resin, and of metal parts held in this insulating body. It is known, in particular, that each metal part comprises an extension arranged for fixing electrical connections, a tubular housing for the insertion of wires to be connected and a threaded hole communicating with this tubular housing to ensure, by means of a screw, a suitable contact pressure between the metal part and the wires to be connected. In these known bases, the insulating body comprises on the one hand chimneys containing the mass of the metal parts and the screws, and on the other hand openings passing through its base for the extensions of the metal parts.
These known terminal sockets suffer from quite serious drawbacks, if they are used in an environment exposed to bad weather, on housings containing machines or electrical circuits immersed in a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin or compound. On the one hand, the resin, before its reversible or irreversible gelation or solidification, can flow along the extensions of the metal parts and infiltrate the threaded holes or

in the form of droplets can compromise the insulation between the metal parts of the terminal base.
The terminal base according to the invention avoids these drawbacks; it is characterized in that each of the metal parts is composed of a metal mass provided with a blind hole for the insertion of the wires to be connected and provided with a cylindrical extension, in that the base of the insulating body is pierced with '' cylindrical bores in which are introduced, tightly tightened, the

<EMI ID = 5.1> metal parts and chimneys 7 retaining the screws 4. The base 1 is pierced with cylindrical bores into which are introduced, tightly clamped, the cylindrical extensions 5 of the metal parts. The tight tightening is obtained thanks to the choice of a somewhat elastic insulating material and thanks to the fact that the diameters of the cylindrical extensions exceed the diameters of the bores by a few percent.
Means are provided to ensure sufficient insulating distances between the metal parts, either by means of ribs 8 or by means of spaces such between the chimneys 6 that in any case they cannot be kept filled with water. by capillary effect. This result is achieved when the product of the height h of the chimneys times the distance d between two neighboring chimneys is equal to or greater than 15 mm <2> (h.d 15 mm <2>).
The base 1 of the insulating body has a shoulder 9 which allows its precise location in a suitable opening of an enclosure 10 of a housing, for example of a transformer. To keep the

base 1 of the insulating body in the opening of 1 enclosure 10, fixing means engaged with the enclosure 10 are provided on the insulating body 1. In the case of

enclosure sheet edge 10.
The insulating body of the terminal solce can be made in particular of a material having a certain elasticity, as well as a high resistance to the path of leakage currents, for example of polyamide filled with glass fibers. The metal parts are preferably made of a metal or covered with a corrosion resistant metal. The terminal base according to the invention is not limited to a three-pole execution, as shown in the drawing, but can have any number of poles.
