rotor of a gas turbine.
It is known that, during transient operation of turbines
gas, these are subjected to thermal stresses which can cause a permanent or temporary deformation of the rotor. It is particularly important to limit the deformation so that the rotor blades do not come into contact with the wall of the turbine cylinder; in the event that the deformation would have a value such that a contact of this kind was possible, it is imperative to be able to detect it in order to take, if necessary, the appropriate measures to prevent destruction of the peripheral portion of the blades by friction on the inside wall of the turbine cylinder.
Such a check can only be carried out by a detector qualitatively measuring the clearance existing between the rotor blades and the inner wall of the turbine cylinder. Various devices have been tried for this purpose, but none has given complete satisfaction.
The present invention relates to a detector of "runout" of the rotor of a gas turbine, therefore of the measurement of the clearance existing between the blades of the rotor and the inner wall of the cylinder, of simple construction and easy use,
which gives the information necessary for checking the operation of the gas turbine in transient mode.
According to the present invention, the clearance detector existing between the blades of the rotor and the internal wall of the cylinder of a gas turbine is characterized in that it is formed of two metal conductors connected together at one of their ends. by a calibrated weld, the said detector being arranged in the wall of the cylinder of the gas turbine, with the calibrated weld located
near the peripheral part of the rotor blades, a measuring circuit being connected to the other end of said metal conductors for the purpose of measuring the potential difference existing between said metal conductors and the mass of the gas turbine and detecting the rupture of said calibrated weld by the friction of the peripheral part of the rotor blades.
Other characteristics of the invention will become apparent from the description which follows, with reference to the appended drawings, which respectively represent: <EMI ID = 2.1> invention,
- in figure 2, an end view of the end of the detector,
- in Figure 3, a view of the assembly of the detector support as it is arranged in the wall of the cylinder of the gas turbine,
- in Figure 4, the diagram of a measuring circuit applicable to the detector according to the present invention.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, II and 12 respectively show two metal conductors which are separated and surrounded by an insulator 13, the whole being surrounded by a cylindrical metal sheath 14. One end of the two metal conductors is stripped and both conductors are then connected by a solder 15 as close as possible to the insulating coating 13. This insulating coating 13 is consequently removed over a certain portion, so as to leave the end of the two conductors II and 12 free. is carried out very carefully and controlled by an appropriate measure so as not to

Subsequently, the end of the detector is covered with a plasticizing adhesive 16, such as the adhesive known under the name M 600, so as to have a rounded end facing the blades of the rotor of the gas turbine.
Figure 3 shows how the detector is mounted in the cylinder wall of the gas turbine. With reference to this figure, 31 shows the cylinder of the turbine, which is surrounded by an insulating layer 32 and a metallic outer casing 33. A pipe 34 is mounted on the body of the cylinder 31,
to the effect of receiving an adapter 35, which supports the detector 36. The latter is fixed on the adapter and its position, relative to the blades 37 of the rotor, is adjusted by one or more calibrated washers 38.
FIG. 4 gives the diagram of an electrical measurement and detection circuit applicable to the detector according to the invention. This circuit is supplied by a battery 41, protected by a fuse 42, and can be put into service by a switch 43. A first circuit is formed by a control lamp 44. A second circuit is formed by the calibrated solder 45 of the play detector and a signal lamp 46. The entire circuit is grounded via a resistor 47 and a measuring device 48 is inserted between ground and one end of the conductors of the detector connected to calibrated weld 45.
The operation is as follows:
When the device is ready for use, the lamp 44 is powered by the battery 41. The clearance existing between the rotor and the cylinder of the gas turbine is detected in 3 phases:
a) the rotor blades are not in contact with the calibrated solder. In this case, a circuit is established via the calibrated solder 45 and the signal lamp 46, which causes this lamp to come on. b) the rotor blades are in contact with the calibrated weld. In this case, the signal lamp 46 continues to be supplied, but the voltage across the terminals of the measuring device 48 is zero, which indicates the contact between the rotor and the turbine cylinder, at each blading contact. with calibrated weld.

45. In and case, the signal lamp 46 is extinguished since there is no longer a circuit for its power supply.
By the measuring circuit according to figure 4, it is possible, when replacing the meure device 48 by a recording device, to record the sequence of rotor blades which comes into contact with the calibrated weld of the detector and to determine in this way the shape of the "runout" of the rotor of the gas turbine.
