Description

Portable electric hair styling device that can be used to straighten or curl hair.
The present invention relates to a portable electric hairdressing device and aims to create a device of simple design that can be used:
a) either as a curler in order to produce waves in the hair b) or to straighten the hair, thus allowing it to be straightened if necessary.
With a view to achieving this goal, the apparatus is characterized in the main order in that it comprises two heating blocks each having a face provided with undula-tions and a smooth opposite face and in that there are provided means by which either the two corrugated faces or the two smooth faces can be brought into contact.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the apparatus comprises a handle receiving two branches, each of which carries a heating block on the outside, one branch being fixedly mounted and the other branch being mounted to pivot relative to the handle and each heating block being rotatably mounted on the corresponding branch.
Other characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description below with reference
to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the crimper-straightener apparatus. Figure 2 is a sectional view of this device.
Figures 3A and 3B are front elevational views showing the two working positions of the heater blocks of the apparatus and Figure 4 is a sectional view of a heater block.
In these different figures the same reference notations designate the same elements.
The apparatus comprises a hollow handle 1 usually molded from a synthetic material into which are introduced branches 2, 3 each serving as a support outside the handle for a heating block 4, 5.
The branch 2 of the heating unit 4 is mounted fixed and is made integral with the handle 1 by a stud 6; branch 3 of heating block 5 is fitted
so as to pivot about an axis 7 passing through the handle 1; in order to make this pivoting possible, the wall of the handle is provided, on the side facing the heating blocks 4, 5, with a slot or a groove 8 (FIG. 2).
A leaf spring 9 is fixed on the branch 3 and bears on the branch 2 so as to normally maintain the branches 2, 3 in the separated position
(position shown in Figure 2).
On a pivot 11 carried by the handle 1 is mounted so as to pivot a lever or a lever
10 which is shaped so as to be able to act on the branch 3 in order to cause the latter to pivot.
When the lever 10 is rotated in the
<EMI ID = 1.1>
<EMI ID = 2.1>
branch 3 is returned by the spring 9 to the separated position.
As shown in Figure 4,
the heating blocks 4, 5 are mounted so as to be able to turn around the corresponding branch 2 or 3.
Each branch 2, 3 has two notches
12 of diametrically opposed location in which a ball 14 located in a housing 13 and subjected to the action of a spring 15 and a screw 15 <1> exerting pressure towards the branch can be engaged alternately.
An important feature is that each heating block (Figures 3A-3B) comprises a smooth face (references 16-17) and an opposite face provided with corrugations (references 18-19). The undulations of the two faces are complementary to each other.
These waves usually have a rounded shape.
Switching from one position to the other is done by rotating the heating block by hand by 180 [deg.].
<EMI ID = 3.1>
released from notch 12 where it is located while
<EMI ID = 4.1>
and the latter enters it by fixing the heating block in the chosen position.
By applying sufficient torque
<EMI ID = 5.1>
15 and it is thus possible to release the heating block 4 or 5 which can then pivot.
Power is supplied by
a cable 20 which ends in a connector 21 from which two branches 22, 23 leave, one of which supplies the heating block 4 while the other supplies the heating block 5.
As emerges from Figure 4, each branch is formed by a metal tube
2 <1>, 31 which comprises at its end a heating block designated as a whole by the reference 24.
The wires 22, 23 are covered with a layer of Teflon which forms a joint at 25 in the heating block.
In practice, this unit comprises for example a self-regulating cylindrical resistor (220 V - 35 W).
