<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>

<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>
<EMI ID=12.1>
L'élément 14 possède trois positions fixes, comme on peut l'observer à la figure 2;
une position supérieure correspondant à la position de raccord; une position moyenne correspondant à la position d'attente du raccord;
<EMI ID=14.1>
"Feeding system for papermaking machines, with a
scrolling: permanent band "
The present invention relates to a coil connection device used for supplying manufacturing machines. paper, in order to connect and replace the lips as the spool debiting ends. This coupling device is very
greatly improved over those in common use. Its <EMI ID = 1.1>
in the case of an automatic connection for a continuous scrolling or supplying of tape.
The connecting device according to the invention comprises a rotating reel holder, designed to support both the reel being discharged and the new reel to be connected, when the first is finished. It comprises, above, a group of members with a set of rollers, cutting elements and elements for retaining and joining the paper. These means guide the paper during the supply (or scrolling) process and when the reel is changed, they automatically join the paper of the finished reel with that of the new reel and they continue to guide the paper during its supply process.
A paper storage group, consisting of a front roller and another movable rear roller through which the paper web passes, ensures the supply in a permanent and uniform process, even during the period of reel change. , thanks to the movement of the movable rear roller in the direction of supply during the reel change. This group releases stored paper as the new spool reaches speed
(normal) supply or debit. For this purpose, the mobile roller is connected to a carrier chain. The group is equipped with means to ensure the supply of paper with a predetermined constant tension of the paper, canceling any variations.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
paper and the thrust of pneumatic cylinders and that it moves when there are variations in tension, in order to always restore the balance.
The retaining and connecting means are constituted by a rocking arm on the end of which is formed, below // a conductive guide of the cutting element, a groove intended to house internally a loop of paper prepared for the cutting. connection. This is provided so that when the rocking arm captures the paper to be joined against that of the web in progress, for the gluing of the two strips of paper and so that the cutting element stops and cuts the excess paper from the Spool finished, new paper is not cut. For this purpose, the rocking arm is equipped with means for retaining the paper to be connected until the moment of the connection.
These means can be constituted by clamping cylinders arranged on one side of the aforementioned groove or by a vacuum chamber opening onto the upper wall by small holes, the paper then being held with this second solution by means of suction.
In order for the rocker arm to automatically clamp the strips of paper to be joined and be able to release them after the completion of the connection, the rocking axis of the rocker and connector arm is connected to a double-acting pneumatic cylinder, which acts at the same time the role of a cutting cylinder and an impact cylinder, so that the arm automatically moved by the cylinder can come to occupy one of three positions: upper or connection, middle or standby, lower or preparation of the paper to be joined, passing from one to the other of these aforementioned positions with a speed programmed in the most suitable manner for each pass.
This solution for the execution of the fitting is therefore very advantageous, since it maintains a constant value
the tension of the paper during the whole process of supply and it takes as a regulating means the very variations of the tension of the paper and then because it acts based on a double and conjugate action, by yielding or by collecting the paper, this which prevents the appearance of effects liable to distort the results, <EMI ID = 3.1>
tions.
The realization of the connection is obtained with great efficiency, thus eliminating the possible defects in the connection and the cut, since one obtains an operation with a frei -
<EMI ID = 4.1>
Me, the invention makes it possible to avoid sudden jerks and it guarantees perfect safety of the new connected paper, by using for this purpose the cutting element intended to remove the excess paper from the finished strip. This is why this solution is very useful and functionally sensitive, while being simpler than other conventional solutions based on principles which do not result in such a perfect operation.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description below, given by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
La.figure 1 is a schematic view of the coil connection device according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a detail view of the connection device proper, with the tilting element seen in section at its end. FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the device for actuating the arms supporting the device in turn carrying the end of the paper to be joined. FIG. 4 is a detail view of the connection device itself, in an embodiment comprising a vacuum chamber
i to retain the paper to be connected.
. According to the invention and in the illustrated embodiment, it has been arranged above a port reel 1, a set of rollers consisting of two rollers 7 and 8 guiding the strip of paper 9, a <EMI ID = 5.1>
pushed by two cylinders 25 and another movable roller 10 which bypasses the paper web 9 and which determines a storage of paper ensuring a continuous and uniform flow during the process. The normal position of the roller 10 is a late position (on the right side), as shown in Figure 1.
Between the guide rollers 7 and 8 are guides
11 intermediaries on which slides a chain 12 (figure 2) carrying a knife 13 intended to cut the excess paper from the reel providing paper 5, when it is finished and after

is caused to tilt towards them, by making the groove of the lower guide 11 coincide with the groove of the device 16. The latter consists of a section forming a channel in its upper part and carrying on one of its sides several cylinders pneuma-
<EMI ID = 8.1>
velle reel, forming a fold when this paper is gripped by rods 27. against stops 28 (see Figure 2).
Paper 19 from reel 6 to be connected passes over the roll
15 and the element 14 and is held against the device 16 thanks to the action of the cylinder 26. By cutting the paper 19 at the front, at the level of the device 16, a strip of adhesive paper is placed on the end. 20 (see figure 1), which prepares the fitting.
Under these conditions, - when the reel delivering paper
-5 ends, the element 14 rotates until it clamps the strip of fed paper 9 against the lower guide 11. this allows the braking of this tape 9, at the same time as the paper 19 of the new reel 6 sticks to the tape and, at this precise moment, we make <EMI ID = 9.1>
paper 9 but without cutting the paper 19, because the latter is located in the groove of the device 16 which is not reached by the knife.
During this connection operation, the supply * or supply is not interrupted, since when the strip 9 is braked between the device 16 and the lower guide 11, the roller 10 begins to move towards the front by releasing paper, thanks to the shortening of the paper loop around
this roller 10.
After making the cut, the roller 10 returns to its initial late position and the paper 19 is released from the device
16, since when the latter comes into contact with the

to their initial position. The end of the paper 19 remains stuck to the paper 9 and is released from the pressure of the device 16. When the knife 13 has finished cutting the paper 9, the element 14 descends to the middle position, releasing the paper 19 to begin cutting. 'coil acceleration 6.
When the connection has been made, the acceleration of the paper reel 6 takes place for the following reasons: the roller 10 moves thanks to the drive of the paper 9 when the latter is braked and this roller being connected by its ends to a chain 21 mounted on sprockets 20 and 22, progressively increases the resistance to displacement as it is moved - by the driving of the paper 9, so that when the paper 9 ceases to be braked on. the guides 11 by the action of the element 14, all the resistance force opposed by the roller
10 as it moves thanks to the paper feed 9, is
<EMI ID = 11.1>
The gradual increase in resistance to displacement. of the roller 10 by the driving of the paper 9 results from the fact that on any of the supporting axes, the pinions 20 and 22 (in this case the axis 23, figure 1), a tension regulating device is connected which can be electric, pneumatic or of any other kind, so that when the roller 10 is in the position illustrated in FIG. 1, the accumulation of paper is maximum. In this position, the tension regulator communicates the predetermined minimum tension and, as the roller is driven, the axis 23 transmits its revolution to the tension regulator and gradually increases its tension.
This increase in voltage controls a clutch mounted on one end of the shaft 23, which makes it possible to obtain a progressive increase without abrupt jerks in the acceleration of the new connected coil.
When the new spool 6 has been accelerated, the spool holder 1 is rotated, the spool 6 taking the position of the spool 5 and the axis supporting the latter remaining free, which makes it possible to put in place a new spool.
Oven to facilitate the adaptation of the paper 19 to the groove of the device 16, it is possible to provide for the incorporation of an additional controlled element serving to facilitate the introduction of the strip.
<EMI ID = 12.1>
Element 14 has three fixed positions, as can be seen in FIG. 2;
an upper position corresponding to the connection position; an average position corresponding to the waiting position of the connector;
A lower position corresponding to the position for preparing the piece of paper for the new reel.
The positioning of the element 14 is achieved by means of a pneumatic cylinder (see figure 3) which has the characteristics of an impact cylinder and a torque cylinder in. the same set and which has been designed especially for such- <EMI ID = 13.1>
It works as follows:
The element 14 is mounted on the axis 32. On the end of the latter is a pinion 31 connected to a draw 33 provided with a rack made towards its free end. When the piston 35 does not receive a return pressure, the element 14 descends under the effect of gravity to the lower position corresponding to the preparation position.
When the paper has been prepared in its "lower" position, air is introduced through port 37 with piston 35 moving slowly because port 37 has a flow regulator through which the speed of flow can be adjusted. displacement of the element 14 from the lower position to the middle position.
When the element 14 moves to the middle position, the orifice 38 causes pressure and the piston 36 remains in the position shown in FIG. 3, so that when the piston 35 moves, the rod 33 comes into contact with the rod 34 and remains held in this position, because the piston 36 has a larger diameter than that of the piston 35 and, therefore, when working at the same pressure as the other, it has a greater force, which allows '' establish the average position of element 14.
To go from the middle position to the upper position of the element 14, this movement must be carried out at a high speed and with a lot of force, so that the paper is braked quickly. This very rapid movement of the element 14 is obtained by expelling the air which retains the piston 36 with a rapid exhaust, which allows the piston 35 to move at high speed,
<EMI ID = 14.1>
very high centage of its total stroke, so that the large air chamber of the piston (on the thrust face) does its work-
