<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

The present invention relates to improvements in
devices which ensure the seal - between two enclosures containing atmospheres incompatible with each other when these enclosures are connected
through an airlock crossed right through by a passing body

different atmospheres, the mixing of which is to be avoided.
This is particularly the case in the processes of processing rolled metal products, when these are subjected to various

tion of an airlock or. intermediate auxiliary enclosure in which an atmosphere is maintained at overpressure relative to the atmospheres prevailing in the two adjacent enclosures, the intermediate atmosphere being preferably chemically inert with respect to the other two.
The major drawbacks of such a device consist in the fact that the use of an inert gas is most often prohibitive from the cost point of view, due to its rapidly excessive consumption due to the gas leak.
to the various airlock exit ports.
The present invention relates to a particular airlock device, thanks to which these drawbacks can be avoided to a very large extent. -
This device also has the advantage of being able to be produced regardless of the path taken in said airlock by the laminate which enters it from one side and leaves from another.
The device, object of the present invention, is essentially characterized in that it consists of a duct whose interior contour of at least one transverse section follows as closely as possible the transverse contour of the laminate which is intended for circulate there, the clearance between the two contours being just sufficient for the said laminate to pass through the device without friction, and in that the longitudinal profile of the internal wall of said duct comprises a certain number of successive substantially transverse baffles, this which creates local areas of turbulence between the duct and the laminate passing through it, areas which help to prevent any leaks
fluid constituting the atmosphere dusas, which is supplied with said fluid by appropriate menons.
According to an advantageous variant of the device of the invention, the means for supplying the airlock with the atmospheric gas in question open inside said duct, substantially in the middle of its length, which makes it possible to ensure inside said leads, on the one hand, to sufficient overpressure to prevent any untimely re-entry of the gases constituting the neighboring atmospheres and, on the other hand, to gradually and sufficiently reduce this overpressure towards the peripheral zones of the enclosure constituting the airlock so that any leakage any of this gas to neighboring enclosures is reduced to a minimum.
According to a still more advantageous variant, this duct comprises, either in its mass or in its baffles, a set of heating electrical conductors, intended to keep the temperature of the laminate as constant as possible during its passage through the airlock.
The diagrams below, given by way of non-limiting example and not to scale, make it possible to understand how an airlock can be designed in accordance with that shown in the present invention.
FIG. 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of an airlock according to the invention. We see the enclosure 1 of the airlock 2, arranged between the adjacent enclosures 3 and 4. The airlock 1 has an inlet 5 and an outlet 6 for a laminate 7 moving in the direction of arrow 8. Inside of enclosure 1 there is a conduit in two parts, upper 9 and lower 10, connected by two <EMI ID = 4.1>
