Les dessins annexés représentent respectivement: <EMI ID=1.1> à gaz munie d'un dispositif de contrôle de la direction du flux des gaz d'échappement suivant la présente invention;

<EMI ID=3.1>

The present invention relates to a device for controlling
the direction of a gas flow.
In the so-called “fluidic” technique, it is well known to use an apparatus commonly referred to as a “bistable amplifier”. The Principe of fonctionment
of such an amplifier is well known and is based on the phenomenon of the property of attachment of a flat turbulent gas jet to an adjacent solid wall; this phenomenon is referred to as the Coanda effect. If the wall is not too distant
of the jet or too inclined relative to it, the phenomenon leads to the formation of a "recirculation bubble" in depression, which forces the gas jet to curve and to approach the wall beyond the recirculation bubble.
When the equilibrium conditions are destroyed, that is to say when the depression of the recirculation bubble is destroyed by injection of a certain volume
gas, the attachment of the jet to the wall is removed.
In small dimensions, bistable amplifiers are used in a
large number of applications; it does not appear, however, that so far
devices of this type have been used in power installations.
The present invention relates to a device implementing the phenomenon of the Coanda effect for controlling the direction of the flow of exhaust gases from a power gas turbine to two separate outlets, for example.
a boiler working in a combined cycle with the turbine and an exhaust silencer in the open air. Compared to known devices, the device according to the invention has the advantage of not comprising any moving part in the
flow of exhaust gases from the gas turbine.
According to the present invention, the device for controlling the direction of the
flow of exhaust gases from a gas turbine to two separate outlets according to the principle of a bistable amplifier is characterized in that it comprises
a rectangular section power nozzle which delivers the flow of gas to be controlled, two gas conduits with flat walls parallel to the longitudinal axis
the power nozzle opening into one and the other of the separate outlets,
a divider parallel to the longitudinal axis of the power nozzle placed at the rear of the device in the direction of progression of the gas flow to direct
this gas flow to one or the other of the two outlets, two control nozzles
of rectangular section and parallel to the power nozzle and opening
in the device behind the power nozzle and means for pressurizing one or the other of the control nozzles to cause destruction of the recirculation bubble along the flat wall adjacent to this
nozzle, which results in the switching of the gas flow towards the flat wall adjacent to the other control nozzle, the gas flow being thus switched by a

gas jet to be controlled, located at the outlet of the compressor-turbine assembly
(shown schematically in phantom), is of rectangular section
and has its vertical axis with respect to the drawing plane. The exhaust gas jet is to be directed towards one of the two conduits 2 and 3 which open out respectively towards the boiler and towards the exhaust silencer in the open air. the conduits <2> and 3 are determined by side walls 4 and 5 and by a middle divider 6; the walls 4 and 5 and those of the divider 6 are parallel to the axis of the power nozzle 1.
From the application of the operation of bistable amplifiers, it is known that the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle 1 will be directed towards the duct 2 or towards the duct 3, depending on whether it is formed, behind the exhaust nozzle.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
wall 3, approximately at the locations marked 7 and 8 respectively.
To ensure control of the direction of the gas jet, two control nozzles 9 and 10 are provided immediately behind the power nozzle 1, near the places 7 and 8 where the recirculation bubbles form. The control nozzles 9 and 10 are also nozzles of rectangular section parallel to the power nozzle 1. They can be supplied with a gaseous fluid under pressure, for example air, in order to destroy the depression of the recirculation bubble. adjacent and cause the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle 1 to tilt.
For example, if a steady state is established in which the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle 1 is directed towards the duct 2, therefore towards the boiler, there is a recirculation bubble at the location marked 7 in the drawing and the gas jet undergoes a phenomenon of attachment to the wall 4. As the recirculation bubble is in depression, the pressurized air supply of the control nozzle 9 will destroy this depression and will cause the tilting of the gas jet of the control nozzle. conduit 2 to conduit 3 by the formation of a new recirculation bubble at the location marked 8 in the drawing. A new state of operation will thus be established in which the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle 1 is directed towards the duct 3, therefore towards the exhaust silencer in the open air. This new state of regime will remain stable until an operation.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
the switching back of the gas jet from duct 3 to duct 2.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 2 and 3, it has been assumed that the two outlet ducts leading respectively to the boiler and to the silencer are bent upwards. The device therefore comprises two chimneys <1> <1> and <1> <2>, connected to a divergent 13 with flat walls via two elbows 14 and 15, with a median divider 16. At the lateral part left of the divergent <1> <3> is the power nozzle 17, of rectangular section and whose longitudinal axis is horizontal and parallel to the median edge of the divider 16. The control nozzles 18 and 19 are located at the 'inlet of the divergent <1> 3, just after the power nozzle 17; they are also of rectangular section and their longitudinal axis is parallel to that of the power nozzle 17.
Each of the control nozzles 18 and 19 is connected by a valve 20 to a pressurized air supply pipe 21.
It was noted during the experiments that the switching of the gas flow delivered by the power nozzle could be obtained by bringing into play
<EMI ID = 5.1>
represents about a few percent of that of the power nozzle, ie a gain of about 20 to 30. Such a control flow can easily be produced.
<EMI ID = 6.1>
whether to use the gas turbine compressor draw-offs, by means of suitable control valves.
It has also been observed that once the tilting of the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle has been obtained, the control fluid flow rates can be canceled - although this is not essential. The action of the control nozzles can therefore be limited to the time required for tilting, which does not exceed a few seconds despite the dimensions of the device. The switching time can also be reduced by injecting the fluid into

of the device.
<EMI ID = 8.1>
control fluid on the side where there is no recirculation bubble. As a result, the control members of the device can be produced in a very simple manner, not requiring expensive technological solutions.
Finally, it has been observed that the conduit into which the gas jet delivered by the power nozzle is not directed is in depression. As a result, it is not essential to provide a special device for closing off this duct and that the ambient air intake which takes place there prevents any leakage.

<EMI ID = 10.1>

<EMI ID = 12.1> instead of being in a vertical plane, as is the case with the embodiment illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. In this case, the outlet ducts for the gas flow are arranged the one next to the other, or close to each other at the end of a horizontal V-shaped diverging part. However, the arrangement according to Figures 2 and 3 greatly reduces the footprint of the device.
Compared to conventional solutions implementing purely mechanical means such as valves, deflectors, etc., the device according to the present invention has the important advantage of not having any moving part in the path of the gas jet to be controlled, Hence a particularly significant reduction in investment, maintenance or repair costs, especially if one takes into account the fact that the temperature of the gas jet to be controlled is relatively high (of the order of 500 to 600 [deg .]VS). The device does not include any moving part, which reduces the cost price while ensuring the tilting of the gas jet to be controlled in a very short time.
