<EMI ID=73.1>

<EMI ID=78.1>

<EMI ID = 17.1>
The most advantageous reducing agent is a metal hydride, such as lithium aluminum hydride, sodium bis (2-methoxyethoxy) aluminum hydride or sodium dihydrodiethyl aluminate. The reducing agent can be used in a stoichiometric amount or in an amount greater than the stoichiometric amount.

to proceed with this substitution consists in carrying out a reaction with an alkyl or aryl chloroformate (for example methyl chloroformate, ethyl chloroformate or phenyl chloroformate), and to follow this reaction by hydrolysis of the compound alkoxycarbonyl or aryloxycarbonyl thus obtained. The reaction with the alkyl or aryl chloroformate can be carried out at a temperature varying from room temperature to reflux temperature, in an inert organic solvent (eg benzene, toluene). Non-toxic and pharmaceutically acceptable salts are excellent antidepressants.
They demonstrate various pharmaceutical activities,
in particular on the central nervous system and on
the sympathetic nervous system. For example, they have been found to be antagonists of the depressant effect on the central nervous system induced by tetrabenazine and reserpine and of the cholinergic effect on
the central nervous system induced by tremorin
and that they enhance the effect of methamphetamine and the central and peripheral nervous system action of norepinephrine. In addition, their acute cardio-toxicity is markedly lower in comparison with that of known conventional antidepressants. Likewise,
the acute toxicity of these compounds is relatively low or moderate compared to that of known conventional anti-depression agents.
