Title cpds (I) have the formula: (where M is H or an equivalent of a colourless cation, A1 is a 1-3C alkylene gp. opt. substd. by 1 or 2, alkyl gps. A2 is a 1-3C alkylene gp. opt. substd. by 1 or 2 alkyl gps. or a phenylene gp. opt. substd. by 1 or 2, of F, Cl, alkyl, alkoxy and -SO3M, R1-3 same or different, one each H, F, Cl, CN, alkyl, alkoxy or -SO3M or a phenyl gp. opt. substd. by 1 or 2, of F, Cl, alkyl, alkoxy and -SO3M, with proviso that one of R1-3 may be an opt. substd. phenyl gp. and one of R1-3 is CN or -SO3M gp. or two of R1-3 together form -OCH2O-. the thir dbeing as defined above, R4 is H, F, Cl, alkyl or alkoxy, R5 is H, alkyl, phenyl opt. substd. by 1 or 2 of F, Cl, alkyl, alkoxy and -SO3M, and Y is -O-, or -NR6- in which R6 is H or an alkyl gp). Cpds. (I) are useful as optical brightening agents partic. for natural and synthetic polyamides e.g. nylon 6 or nylon 66 fibres.
