Abstract

On leaving the hot-galvanising bath, jets of a phosphating or passivating liq. are directed onto the molten Zn surface of the steel sheet or strip in an electrostatic field which promotes atomisation of the liq. The sheet is then cooled to 80-60 degrees C and painted or coated with plastic material. A surface-cleaning process is pref. applied immediately prior to painting. The sheet is drawn vertically out of the Zn bath and partially cooled with hot air to above the salification temp. of Zn before phosphating. The process avoids the crystalline appearance which can occur in galvanising.
