Mention may be made, for example, of the processes based on material balances and thermal balances and implementing a

keep regularly at the drawdown of the retort, the composition and temperature desired for the affine metal. In practice, however, there is a certain dispersion of the results thus obtained. This dispersion may be due to a poor knowledge of the materials loaded: exact composition of the cast iron, scrap iron, lime, their weight, etc. Thus, for example, a variation of 0.1% P in the composition of the cast iron is found entirely in the refined metal during the drawdown, obviously taking into account the amount of cast iron.
To remedy this, one generally carries out a premature folding back of the retort, one quickly measures the iron content of the slag as well as its temperature and one resumes the blowing with or without addition during the time nor -:., Necessary to obtain the composition. and the temperature deni-. des for metal.
The results thus obtained have proved to be satisfactory and it has been possible to significantly reduce the dispersions which are generally observed when premature drawdown is not carried out.
However, certain difficulties remain.

It is conceivable, for example, that a variation of these blowing conditions can cause variations in the post-combustion rate <EMI ID = 5.1>
The present invention relates to a method

In order to be able to follow the evolution of carbon in the metal bath, one must know the evolution of the weight of the bath and therefore the law of dissolution of the scrap.
