Abstract

A metallurgical residue which includes a slag contg. ZnO is introduced into a furnace, the residue is heated to ca 1250 degrees C, the brass which melts at this temp. falls to the bottom of the furnace, carbon is added to the slag to reduce the ZnO to metallic Zn as a vapour, the Zn vapour is withdrawn and condensed, the molten slag is removed from the furnace, and the molten brass is removed from the furnace.
