Abstract

1452349 Recovering brass and zinc from residues ROESSING BRONZE CO 1 March 1974 9412/74 Heading C7D The recovery of both brass and zinc from residues containing both zinc and brass and zinc oxide containing slags is carried out by heating the residue in a furnace to about 1250‹C, allowing the brass to rush through the molten slag to the bottom of the furnace, and adding carbon in the form of coke, coal or graphite to reduce the zinc oxide in the slag to zinc vapour, which is withdrawn through a furnace outlet and condensed into zinc metal. The depleted slag and molten brass are tapped at intervals from the furnace through different parts. Flux additions of lime, silica, scrap glass, borox rasorite or colemanite may be made to render the slag more fluid. Electric arc, induction or gas fired furnaces may be used.
