Abstract
Fabrication of an article in a heat-fusible material, partic glass, comprises a cup and an interm. narrow part connecting it to a heavy base by (a) delivering a batch of the heat-fusible material to a parison mould and forming therein a parison with a substantially conical hollow body prolonged integrally and axially to a heavy base contg. sufficient material to form the narrow pt. and the base of the article; (b) transferring the parison in to a vertical position in a finishing mould with a vertical movable bottom plate, a cup-shaped part and an interm. narrower part as well as an enlarged base; (c) allowing the parison to sag under the influence of gravity so that when it is enclosed in the mould, the lower end of the hollow body of the parison is situated directly below the interm. narrower part of the mould, while a pt. of the parison is enclosed by the narrower part; (d) applying a pressure to the hollow body of the parison so that a part of this is driven into contact with the narrower part of the mould before a significant amount of fused material has accumulated on the base plate; (e) applying a different pressure on the body of the parison to drive this back into contact with the cup-part of the mould; (f) applying an axial force to the heavy end of the parison by displacement of the baseplate to force the heavy end of the parison into the shape of the base of the article.
