Abstract
Compsns. for preventing dental caries, plaque and calculus contain (a) 0.01-2.5wt.% of a cpd. (I): A(X)z-NR-C(NH)-NH-C(NH)-NH-(CH2)n-NH-C(NH)-NH-C(NH)-NR1-(X1)z1A1 (where A and A1 are each either (i) phenyl opt. substd. by 1 or 2 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy gps., or NO2 or halogen; (ii) 1-12C alkyl, or (iii) a 4-12C alicyclic gp.; X and X1 are 1-3C alkylene; z and z1 are 0 or 1; R and R1 are H, 1-12C alkyl or 7-12C aralkyl; n = 2-12; and (CH2n is opt. interrupted by =5 ether, thioether, phenyl or naphthyl gps.), or a salt of (I); and (b) a 0.01-10wt.% stoichiometric excess, over (a), of one of a wide rnage of phoohonic acids or their salts, or condensation prodts. of NH3 and P2O5. The prefd. compsn. contains (I; A = A1 = p-chlorophenyl, z = z1 = 0, n = 6) digluconate and disodium 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonate. Component (b) prevents the brown staining observed when (I) is used alone.
