Abstract

Alkyl trans-chrysanthemates are prepd. by treating the corresp. cis-isomer with a catalyst selected from (a) alkali metals, (b) alkaline compsn. prepd. by reacting an alkali metal, an alkali metal hydroxide and Al2O3 at above the m.pt. of the alkali metal and (c) alkali metal hydrides, pref. at 50-200 degrees C, opt. in a non-retarding solvent. The catalyst is pref. used in an amt. of 0.001-0.5 moles of alkali metal per mole of cis-isomer. The prodts. are inters. for pyrethroid insecticides having higher activity than those prepd. from the cis-isomers.
