Abstract
Process for simultaneously determining foam height (HM) and CO2 flow rate (DCO2) from a converter is, for a given converter, by (a) continuously measuring the intensity (S) of noise from the converter at various frequencies V1, V2...Vn; (b) continuously and simultaneously with (a) determining (DCO2) and factors disturbing (S) i.e P1...Pn-2; (c) establishing n relationships (S)v1 = f1 (DCO2, HM, P1...Pn-2) (S)v2 = f2 (DCO2, HM, P1...Pn-2) (S)vn = Fn (DCO2, HM, P1...Pn-2) in which HM is foam height above the metal melt measured by known techniques, and (d) resolving this system with n equations to n unknowns e.g. by a digital or analog. calculator, and thus determining at a given moment the values of DCO2 and HM which may be determined for any moment of the refining operation by repeating the above steps.
