Abstract

Hair spray consists of a soln of a film-forming polymer (I) and a plasticising agent for (I) consisting of a normally solid material (II) which is compatible with the polymer and which gradually vapourises out of the compsn after application to the hair. Examples of suitable polymers are vinyl pyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymers, vinyl acetate/crotonic acid copolymer, etc. Suitable volatile plasticisers are propionamide, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, menthol, etc. The polymer/plasticiser compsn is made up in a volatile solvent and suitably packed in aerosol form. After application to the hair, the plasticiser slowly vapourises thus preventing the hair from becoming brittle and difficult to brush and comb.
