Abstract

Esp. for purificn. of cryogenically produced He, Ne, Kr, Xe, Rn and H2, cartridges of absorber material are interposed between the unpurified gas inlet and purified gas outlet of an outer envelope, esp. double walled with coolant circulation for safety. The cartridge(s) is/are either a porous metal shell filled with absorber or self supporting mass(es) of compressed powdered absorbent which in both cases is Zr-Al alloy esp. 84:16 by wt. Independent electric heater wires external to or embedded in the absorber are fitted for regeneration. Purifier is cheap, simple, efficient, reliable, and easily maintained.
