Abstract
Recovering H2SO4 catalyst used for alkylation of olefins or aromatics, (a) contacting it with olefinic hydrocarbon to produce mostly dialkyl sulphate with some alkyl acid sulphate, acid-polymeric hydrocarbon complex and water (b) extracting the dialkyl sulphate from the product with a liq. hydrocarbon solvent (c) diluting the raffinate to 85-90% acidity, extracting the residual dialkyl sulphate with more solvent, (d) diluting the second raffinate to 50% H2SO4 to hydrolyse the acid sulphate to alcohol and release the polymeric hydrocarbon from the complex and finally removing the alcohol and polymeric hydrocarbon from the final acid which contains about 50% acid. The final acid may be concd. by distn.
