Abstract
Silicone antifoam compsn. for aqs. systems consists of (I) 70-98 wt.% base oil selected from polyoxypropylene polymers, and polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene copolymers having a mol.wt. of 500-6000, and siloxane-glycol copolymers of formula Ia-Id:- RaSi (OSiME2)n(OSiMeG)bOSiMe2G 4-a Ia RaSi (OSiMe2)n(OSiMeG)cOSiMe3 4-a Ib GMe2Si(OSiMe2)n(OSiMeG)bOSiMe2G Ic Me3Si(OSiMe2)n(OSiMeG) OSiMe3 Id (where R is C1-10 hydrocarbyl free of aliphatic unsaturation; Me is methyl; G is a group of formula -D(OR')mA; A is a terminal blocking group; D is C1-30 alkylene; R' is C2-10 alkylene; m is at least 1; a is 0 or 1; n is at least 12; b is 0-50; and C is 1-50), (II) 1-20 wt.% antifoam agent consisting of 88-95 pts. wt. liquid polymethylsiloxane with a viscosity of at least 20 cst., 5-10 pts. wt. silica and 0-2 pts.wt. siloxane resin contg. SiO2 and (CH3)3SiO1/2 units in a ratio of 1:0.4-1.2, and (III) 0.1-10 wt.% dispersing agent selected from (a) copolymers contg. SiO2 units, (CH3)3SiO1/2 units and Q(CH3)2SiO1/2 (where Q is polyoxypropylene polymer, or polyoxypropylene/polyoxyethylene copolymer with a mol. wt. of 500-6000, Q being fixed to the Si atom by an Si-C bond, the ratio of SiO2 units to the other units being 1:0.4-1.2, and (b) copolymers obtained by heating a mixt. of a siloxane copolymer contg. SiO2 and (CH3)3SiO1/2 units in a ratio of 1:0.4-1.2, and a hydroxylated polyoxypropylene copolymer or hydrated polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene copolymer having a mol.wt. of 500-6000. Cpds. have a polyoxypropylene or a copolymer of formula Me3Si(OSiMe2)25(OSiMeG)7OSiMe3 (where G is -(CH2)3(OC2H6)26(OC3H6)24OOCCH3; and Me is methyl). In II, the polydimethylsiloxane has a viscosity of 20-2000 cst., and the silica is a precipitated silica. The compsn. also contains 0-10 wt.% solvent. High antifoam action. Easily dispersed in aqs. systems.
