Abstract
Solid phase condensation under vacuum of polyesters at 5-50 degrees C below the m.pt. of the polycondensate is effected in tubular reactors in series which can be placed under vacuum, and whose temp. and pressure can be controlled independently, each reactor being heated and its transport screw also opt. being heat, the volume of the screws being subdivided by ribs between the sides. Esp. useful for prepn. of polyethylene terephthalate. The screw ensures satisfactory stirring and mixing of the precondensate, and a large heat exchange surface is provided.
