Abstract

Austenitic stainless steel wires of dia. 0.025-0.89 cms are electroplated with Fe to a thickness of 0.0069-107mu depending on the wire dia. and desired degree of redn. A phosphate surface layer is applied on the coated steel, controlled such that some free Fe remains which is passivated by conventional methods. The coating is extremely adherent and provides excellent self-lubrication during working processes so that redns. of 1/3 per pass can be achieved.
