Abstract
Title sponges comprise >=1 water-soluble alginate (pref. Na) and >=1 water-insoluble alginate (pref. Ca), and have a water absorptive capacity of is approx. 5,000%+. Hydration beyond satn. causes disintegration or dissolution, thus aiding disposal. Useful as shaped medical receptors for biological fluids, for treatment of burns and as dental or oral sponges.
