Abstract
Hydrocarbon charge e.g. refined petroleum, is contacted with composite catalyst comprising Gp VIII noble metal (e.g. pt) Sn, Li and a support comprising refractory metal oxide(s), i.e. alumina zircon, magnesia, hafnium oxide, thoria, titanium oxide and/or boric oxide, under dehydrogenation conditions at 455-680 degrees C. In partic, charge has 4-30C, e.g. a branched or an n-alkane, and Sn; Pt ratio is esp. 0.75:1-1.25:1. Cyclisation accompanied by aromatisation may also be effected. The catalyst is made by solution processes. Ethylbenzene can be converted to styrene and isobutene and dodecene are made for isobutene and dodecane.
