Abstract

Low-mol. wt. polymer, suitable for improving flow of crystalline polystyrene, is produced in presence of a free-radical initiator, opt. chain-transfer agents (pref. a mercaptan), and a suspending agent comprising a slightly soluble Ca, Ba or Mg phosphate, keeping the pH of the suspension at 5.0-8.0, pref. by adding an alkali-metal phosphate giving a 1% soln. with pH >8.5.
